It was such a welcoming experience. David was so kind to pick us up from the station and also drop us off in town for dinner. Great hospitality, small onsen but really nice. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Location was fabulous, views were stunning. Easy hotel shuttle ride to/from Myokokogen station. Lovely free drinks at happy hour(s) every afternoon. Wonderful indoor and outdoor hot spring baths. I painted outdoors when it was sunny, and indoors when cold, snowy/rainy. JonBradham.com

The beds were very comfortable, we paid for the breakfast option and the food and coffee was just right every morning. Clean facilities, the staff was always there to assist if we had questions. The shuttle only takes you to Suginohara, Akakura Kanko and Ikenotaira. But if you give them advance notice, they can come get you when you’re done skiing for the day, it’s a wonderful amenity! The Onsen in the property is delightful as well, much needed after skiing all day. The location is perfect for walking anywhere, rentals, food, local buses stops and the convenience store. The front desk has all the information needed to get to know the town easily and find your way around. One of the best ski properties I’ve ever stayed at in Japan!

Sekiyama Onsen is a hot spring with a long history, and Yoshinoya Onsen Ryokan has been in operation for over 100 years. It embodies a truly traditional Japanese style—absolutely amazing! The onsen itself is fantastic. Moreover, the open-air onsens, Kawara no Yu and Koganeyu, located 2-3 kilometers from Yoshinoya Onsen Ryokan, were amazing hidden gems. They offered a fantastic experience and created wonderful memories for our family. The next-generation owner was incredibly kind. Thanks for guiding us to these amazing places—this wonderful memory will remain forever in our family’s hearts. Sekiyama Onsen Ski Resort is famous for its powder snow, and I look forward to skiing there again in January.

Staying at Redbox lodge for our first Japan ski trip was a such a pleasant experience. The lodge situates right in front of the chairlift. You can’t ask for any more convenience than that. Brendon, the lodge owner looked after us with all our extra needs like ski hire and chair lift tickets, with ready smiles and such friendliness. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. We definitely would recommend Redfox lodge to our families and friends and will return for another visit soon.

Great place of value and comfort. The staff is quite helpful and friendly. For some reason, the male Onsen was cool while the female Onsen was hot. It would have been nice to have a hot Onsen for the men.

Myoko is an incredible region of fun, the mountains offer heaps of ski resorts with fantastic runs, lessons, places to dine and sit with a hot beverage or refreshen beer or sake. Its wonderful for both families and those who are daring to hit the slopes for thrills. The hotel shuttles, local buses and taxis make travel from resort to various slopes, very easy. The locals are exceptionally helpful and friendly.

The snow in Myoko is otherworldly.

The snow in Myoko is otherworldly. The powder is unimaginably great and really loved visiting Seki Onsen Ski Area. It's a small, family-owned ski area run by the Inoue Family who are the kindest and most hospitable people you'll find anywhere in Japan. Family-owned and run ski areas are in decline with large corporations buying up ski areas across Japan, so it was a real treat to ski at an area where the snow was perfect and you're supporting a local business. 10 our 10 for Seki Onsen Ski Area!

Ski areas vary considerably in the area.

Ski areas vary considerably in the area. Akakura Onsen has absolutely the worst lifts i have experienced in Japan. When they weren't broken down they were extremely slow. On the other hand Suginohara has a new gondola and modern 'high' speed lifts. This was the pick of the mountains to ski for me.

Myokokogen is a great spot for skiing and snowboarding.

Myokokogen is a great spot for skiing and snowboarding. Most hotels come with their own onsens. As for ski resorts, Suginohara has more advanced terrain, followed by Akakura Kanko (top part), Ikenotaira Alpen Blick and finally Akakura Onsen. Seki onsen is a small but great option on deep powder days. Lotte Arai (advanced terrain) is a 30-min drive from Akakura onsen. As for apres ski, Akakura Onsen is the only option. Lots of restaurants and bars on the main street. Sekigawa (Ikenotaira area) and Suginosawa (Suginohara area) are quite sleepy, and deserted at times.

We went to Myoko for the snow and we got the snow!

We went to Myoko for the snow and we got the snow! Loved the long ski runs at Suginohara and skiied there 3 days. Also skied one day each at Ikenotaura Onsen and Seki Onsen. Low visibility killed us! Be prepared to ski in low cloud and less groomed tracks. Lime Resort Onsen was fantastic. Local restaurants (Chinese, Japanese and Greek) were great food and value for money.

A nice Ryokan in Myoko, a little dated but quite comfortable. The rooms are spacious were were a family of 3 adults sharing a room and we all had plenty of room. Trditional futon sleeping, futons were a little thin for our comfort but the doona cover was lovely and warm. The hosts are very friendly people, nothing was too much trouble. There is a public onsen and a private onsen. We booked the private bath and it was wonderful. We had a Japanese breakfast one morning and it was delicious! The staff were exceptionally friendly

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, loved the Onsen ritual. We had a Japanese room and loved the experience. Great location to the local restaurants, yet away from the hustle of the Main Street. Breakfast was great and good variety of western and Japanese food. Street vendor outside had good food too. Room cleaned each day and water provided. Stayed in winter. Thank you Hotel Taiko.

The team at Refre were fantastic. The hosts Jen and Pete were extremely helpful and knowledgeable of Myoko and the surrounding areas. The hotel facilities were very good and exceeded our expections. We were well fed with good quality food which kept us going on the slopes for a full day. I would happily stay at Refre again and will reccomend this place to family sand friends.
