FAQs about hotels in Osaka

A Stronghold of Japanese Culture

At the meeting point of river and sea, huge Osaka combines forward-thinking development and sure-footed tradition. This is symbolised in its temple-like, 16th century castle, guarded by ramparts and enlivened by vibrant spring cherry blossom. Dominating the surrounding skyline is Osaka Business Park, a reminder of the city’s strong role in the Japanese economy.

However, the most striking skyscraper is the Umeda Sky Building - 2 towers connected by a rooftop terrace offering far-reaching views. The nearby Osaka and Umeda train stations are linked by underground shopping centres, while the shops of Shinsaibashi’s America Village appeal to a younger crowd. Dōtonbori’s neon lights promote more shops, as well as restaurants considered the best in Osaka. In a city touted as Japan’s culinary capital, that’s quite an accolade.

The Tsūtenkaku tower overlooks Tennōji Park, home of the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art. Another nearby park houses Shitennō-ji, one of Japan’s oldest Buddhist temples.

The Kyocera Dome Osaka is a shrine of baseball, and more thrills are at waterfront Universal Studios Japan, the country’s 2nd largest theme park. Also by the sea is Kansai International Airport, on its own artificial island.

The capsule hotel was invented in Osaka, and alongside this type of accommodation, Booking.com also offers luxury hotels with pools, cheap hostels and traditional ryokans.

Loved Osaka as it has a different vibe to other Japanese cities, louder and a little less restrained. There was plenty to see although as we were located near the Shinsaibashi shopping area we tended to go to restaurants in that area mainly. Some of the restaurants were only very small shop fronts and very devise … a lot of fun. The major attractions were great especially the Umeda building observation decks and Osaka Castle was fascinating.

We went to have dinner with a local resident, a friend. He took us to a very lively neighbourhood with tonnes of small restaurants. They were all very nice and the food was unbelievably good - we had sushi and it was fresh and delicious and soooo cheap.

If you want to experience a little bit of traditional Japan, Osaka would be a go-to place. You can just take a train and go to Kyoto for a day or two. What's not to like about Osaka. There's Dotonbori, Universal studios, Legoland, sights and sounds like Umeda sky for the views.. not to mention the castles aaaand.. Donki's everywhere. Don't take my word for it. Go and experience for yourself!

Good hotel, very good value, clean, new, quiet, a lot of extras, very friendly staff and well connected through the hommachi station (25 min walk from Namba). The rooms and bathroom were very comfortable, but the bed and room was a bit small since this is right in the osaka business center. I did not enjoy the bed pillows that much, but they are usually like that in Japan. Close to a 7/11, and there is an amazing Izakaia restaurant with some amazing food right across the street.

Location was fine, 10-15 minutes walk from Osaka station. After 6 days walking in southern Japan this was our first urban experience and it didn't disappoint. The size of the room was the first surprise. After reading so much of tiny rooms in Japanese hotels we were pleasantly surprised by Hotel Elcient as we continued to be at all our hotels in Kyoto, Hiroshima & Tokyo. Breakfast was great as was the onsen. Easy access via the subway to Namba station and onto Nara.

The location was not central, but very good with just 50 meters to one of the exits of the Daikokucho station and just one stop to Namba/Dotonbori. The room was probably a meter or two bigger than the other ones I stayed in in similar hotels in Japan, meaning you can open your suitcase on the floor. :) The staff was professional and nice. The onsen was decent, with a little outside space and a bigger one inside. The breakfast was very good!

5 mins walk to Namba Station. Stone’s throw away to the happening Dotonbori area. Family mart is very nearby. So many eateries and restaurants around. Staff were friendly and approachable. They have a corner where you can get free ice cream, soft drinks, coffee and beer from 3-9pm; free cup noodles from 8.30-9pm. Fantastic for kids! Room was small, as are other hotels here in Japan but no problem for us as a couple.

The hotel is simple but very well located in Dotonbori—you can easily walk around Osaka’s shopping and dining areas. The room was one of the smallest we saw in Japan, very tight, but the bed is comfortable and, at the end of the day, all you want is to arrive and rest. It’s also close to Namba Station, which makes it convenient for visiting nearby or even more distant places.
