Featherston Bookfair weekend in May is just great.

Featherston Bookfair weekend in May is just great. Lots of very interesting talks and panels, and other things to do - and plenty of cake! Love the secondhand bookshops everywhere, I would not pass through without visiting a few

Featherston is a cut wee village community with a supermarket and take away shops to make your stay easy. Would highly recommend visiting Monsieur Fox wintage store- some absolute gems and treasures to be found.

A good stop for a night or two on a trip up the east coast of the north island to Greytown, then Havelock North and then Taupo. Has some nice cafes, op shops, antique stores and after coming over the range is a good break before heading further. Some lovely old homes and gardens to wander around and see. Great shop to buy cheeses, chutneys and other products - called Cheez It. Locals very friendly and some great bookstores that we enjoyed looking through. Also has a book festival annually, which we are going to look into. Local wineries not far away.

We stayed at the Royal Hotel, which was truly excellent, and very highly recommended for accommodation and food. We explored Featherstone & surrounds, and although many places were closed as it was the King's Birthday, we enjoyed a coffee at C'est Cheese. A highlight was a visit to Olea Estate where we experienced wonderful hospitality from the owners, who produce award winning olive oils. Don't miss out on this.

Didn't go to Featherston to shop or see the sites. I went to a wedding there. The venue was within walking distance which was great. The only thing about this property is the owners live right across from you, so can see everything that happens. From visitors to staying up late.

Featherston is a great place to stay the night.

Featherston is a great place to stay the night. The food at the Royal Hotel is exceptional. And we found a little bookshop and cafe at the other end of the street which had the most amazing high tea of date scones with raspberry jam and mascarpone. I've always driven through on the way to Greytown, but decided to stay in Featherston at the Royal Hotel instead. I will be going back. Perfect overnight getaway.
