This small city was an absolute gem - stunning ancient squares and streets filled with lovely cafes and restaurants, altogether not as touristy as it could have been and very easy to walk around. We dined in two of the main squares with traditional Portuguese cuisine and inexpensive wines, and lovely ice cream outlets. We took the cablecar up the hillside and walked back down. We visited the Ducal palace (fantastic reconstruction) and castle (ruin). We could easily have spent a week here relaxing and taking in the atmosphere. It's a small, quaint little town.
It's a small, quaint little town. Everyone is quite friendly. It's also well curated. A lot of the citizens are multilingual which is quite amazing. I only stayed 1 1/2 day and arrived on a Tuesday evening and I'd recommend for ppl that are staying very shortly to maybe arrive on a Wednesday since quite a few restaurants are closed Monday & TuesdayGuest review byV - 10.0

We arrived on the day of a festival to celebrate fire...
We arrived on the day of a festival to celebrate fire fighters, and we're presented with a free concert in a square in the town which was magical. The town is small enough to explore easily on foot. Everyone we met was very helpful and friendly. Went up on the cable car with magnificent views, and found a peaceful park where we had a picnic lunch surrounded by magnificent granite boulders.Guest review byAnonymous

As we checked-in we were greeted with very friendly and helpful staff. The property is very big and spacious. Breakfast was good. The room had a lot of light because of the various windows, and the private bathroom is great for more reserved guests. It was comfy in general because of the hardwood floors, daylight and vintage windows, although they are not in amazing shape anymore.
