Ponte de Lima is a lovely old town by the side of the River Lima. There are plenty of small shops to visit and more than enough restaurants to choose from. Every restaurant we visited was exceptional, with reasonably-priced food and helpful members of staff. On a beautiful river with the medieval bridge and the pretty church on the other side being the distinctive features as we approached along an esplanade of trees. We really enjoyed Ponte de Lima.
We really enjoyed Ponte de Lima. There happened to be the European Canoe Championships and a garden show taking place, so we enjoyed that. Unlike many towns with historic areas, Ponte de Lima’s historic area is right on the river, which makes for a very picturesque experience. We enjoyed the many great restaurants and the night time practice of outlining buildings with little lights- very cool. Ponte de Lima always has fun events going on.
Ponte de Lima always has fun events going on. It’s unique in that the historic center is right on the river by the Roman bridge. While we were there, the European Canoeing Championships and a Garden Festival were happening, which was fun to watch. Cute town with iconic bridge. I stayed for a day Easter Monday...the cafes and restaurants ALL closed at 3pm. Made me go into a panic of what to eat for supper, fortunately there was a sort of superette on the main road beside the river, the owner was very helpful in helping me assemble a picnic for less than 5 Euros! and I was able to afford a taxi (11 Euros); the owner went out of his way to escort me to the taxi rank!Guest review byRudyardNew Zealand - 10.0
Ponte de Lima is a lovely little town.
Ponte de Lima is a lovely little town. Very quiet, even in July/August. Not too many really good restaurants, and most tend to focus on the hearty local food! If you want a traditional lunch, try A Torre. The river is perfect for swimming in. The restaurant in the golf club is nice as well.Guest review byNickSpain
