The city is excellent and offers a great deal of places to visit, like Hayashi Store for some amazing souvenirs, Confucius Temple to appreciate the ancient learning and culture, a lot of Museums to showcase the art and history of the city, and the fantastic night markets for local cuisine of Tainan. I would not recommend visiting on a Monday as most of the shops, cafes and bars were shut during the day time and also in the evening it was quite difficult to find somewhere to eat. Tainan is one of the most popular destinations in Taiwan for both locals and visitors. Hotels are more expensive than in nearby Kaohsiung, which is a little over an hour away by train, so it is possible to stay in one city and do a day trip to the other... there is much to see and do in both cities. A little research before travelling will help with planning your trip to both Tainan and Kaohsiung and enjoying the best of both worlds. For those interested in history the Chimei Museum in Tainan is a must do but be aware this place is really popular both with tourists and locals... well over 1.5 million visits each year. The Chimei Museum has both a restaurant and coffee shop. Ten Drum Cultural Center is located directly opposite the museum and is a bit of an adventure playground that has a 5-story high extreme slide and a 7-story high free fall ride. The staff were super friendly and so kind and welcoming. The room was very spacious and the hotel provided free laundry and had a fresh and sparkling water dispenser. Breakfast at the hotel was also amazing, fresh and delicious for a buffet breakfast with lots of choices. Location of the hotel was great. It is situated in the same building as fuxing hotel with a huge "FX" logo, it was extremely easy to get around after checking in. Must drop by the tattoo museum and eat the peanut soup right downstairs. Many youbikes, attractions and food are situated around the hotel. Room was very clean and spacious. This hotel is filled with so much character and we didn’t want to leave. This place is thoroughly cleaned and has a very cosy feeling. The owners are also really really sweet and helpful.
