The city is excellent and offers a great deal of places to visit, like Hayashi Store for some amazing souvenirs, Confucius Temple to appreciate the ancient learning and culture, a lot of Museums to showcase the art and history of the city, and the fantastic night markets for local cuisine of Tainan. I would not recommend visiting on a Monday as most of the shops, cafes and bars were shut during the day time and also in the evening it was quite difficult to find somewhere to eat. Tainan is one of the most popular destinations in Taiwan for both locals and visitors. Hotels are more expensive than in nearby Kaohsiung, which is a little over an hour away by train, so it is possible to stay in one city and do a day trip to the other... there is much to see and do in both cities. A little research before travelling will help with planning your trip to both Tainan and Kaohsiung and enjoying the best of both worlds. For those interested in history the Chimei Museum in Tainan is a must do but be aware this place is really popular both with tourists and locals... well over 1.5 million visits each year. The Chimei Museum has both a restaurant and coffee shop. Ten Drum Cultural Center is located directly opposite the museum and is a bit of an adventure playground that has a 5-story high extreme slide and a 7-story high free fall ride. Initially felt room was tiny but considering it was only a very short walk to Tainan main station, i changed my opinion. Staff were very polite and clearly explained the hotel setup. We arrived earlier than checkin, left luggage & set out to explore Chimei museum. When we returned, our bags were already in room, our F&B bag was in downstairs communal fridge (no fridge in room).
