FAQs about hotels in Boston

Where Everybody Knows Your Name

One of the oldest and most historic US cities, Boston is known as "America’s Walking City". In its heart, next to 18th-century Faneuil Hall, is Quince Market - a food haven. In the nearby seaport, you can take a whale-watching trip or dine at one of the many restaurants serving a Boston specialty: lobster with melted butter.

The streets south of the peaceful Charles River in Back Bay are lined with Victorian brownstone houses. At the downtown end of one – Beacon Street – is the Cheers bar, modeled on the 80's sitcom. Opposite is Boston Common, a large park with a bronze sculpture celebrating the book "Make Way for Ducklings". The golden dome of the House of Representatives is by the other end.

The oldest part is Charlestown and streets around the Bunker Hill obelisk still feature old-style gas lamps, though now they are electric. Over in Cambridge, Harvard is the USA’s oldest and most prestigious university. The campus is open to the public, as is Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), whose central point is an emblematic, Pantheon-like building.

Sport in Boston is also a big thing, with the Celtics and Red Sox among the city’s big name teams.

The largest New England city, Boston has the perfect size for walking and cycling. Logan International Airport is connected by public transport to Boston hotels, motels, apartments and B&Bs.

For history lovers there are so many gems to find & explore. However, some of the developments adjacent to several of these sites are somewhat incongruous. For example, the glass monstrosity dwarfing the glory that is Trinity Church. Just my opinion don’t let it put you off!

Boston is a safe and friendly city, with lots of sights to see and areas to experience. We'd recommend the Fine Arts and Isabella Stewart Gardner museums, both of which are along Fenway Park. Also a trip around the harbour, plus Salem is in easy reach by train for a day trip.

For a relatively large city Boston has a gentle, laidback and relaxed atmosphere. There's a strong connection with (relatively recent) US history without this being slapped in your face. We were able to walk almost everywhere easily, to see sights and to reach excellent restaurants and food stores. For longer distances the subway was convenient and reasonably priced.

The transit system takes a little bit of getting used to, if you are not from a city, but once you understand it, everything is fine. Also, if you are unsure of which way to go, there are employees, at the station, who are ready to answer your questions, and you can go the mbta. com site too. I used the site to tell me which trains to take when we wanted to go somewhere, and if I was unsure I would ask an employee once I was there. I enjoyed Boston a lot, and would definitely visit it again, especially because we could see our grandson too. That was the main reason we came to Boston, but we enjoyed the city too with the history and sites.

I love Boston with all my heart.

I love Boston with all my heart. Busy, but not so intense as New York. So close to Cambridge, you can go visit Harvard for a day. The food is absolutely amazing, and I love how easy and affordable it was to move around with subway/metro. I've been to Boston over 4 times and I am a fan!

Too many items to complain about.

Too many items to complain about. Three door codes, each of which at time did not work and try to get a hold of someone...smelly elevator that shakes like crazy and smelly hallways. Old carpeting in the room, way too small and the A/C unit blocked access to one side of the bed. CHEAP cheap furniture. TV, but no channels, no shades, so better plan on getting up with the sun. Very expensive for a terrible experience!!! My girlfriend made us l eave after one night, so what does that tell you?!

My son brought me to Boston for a Red Sox game and some sightseeing. He and I loved the location. I never like big hotels. They are so impersonal so I alway try to find a smaller place or VRBO. Copley house is so convenient to everything. We averaged 12-16 thousand steps each day except for our 1 rain day. The sofa bed being so nice with the Temperpedic mattress made my son very happy!
