While I spent a majority of my time in Northhampton for a friend's wedding, I did manage to get lunch at the Smithsonian Cafe & Chowder House. I had the lobster stew and a cup of coffee out on the porch in the gray New England weather with the changing fall folliage backdrop was a great experience. This facility is managed by an older couple who are keeping their rates low for those of us with modest means, almost all of us. They don't spend their money unnecessarily, dated furnishings, old paint, etc. It looks a little shabby, but who cares. My home is a little shabby too, because I can't spend my money unnecessarily. They were super helpful, check in was a breeze, access to the colleges is great, Wifi was automatic, TV, microwave, refrigerator. I don't need flowers, or chocolate on my pillow, or scented hand soap. Low price and good access are worth a great deal more.Guest review byDavid - 10.0

Although I did not stay in Hatfield for very long, I will say it seems to be a charming little town set in the foothills of the Berkshires. The trip down route 5 was delightful and the people I encountered were all very helpful and pleasant. I wish I had had time to eat at the Chowder House, because that looked very inviting and I have heard it got great reviews!Guest review byVanessa
