FAQs about hotels in Washington, D.C.

A World Icon

Featuring tons of national treasures, Washington DC is the US capital and home to the world’s most iconic presidential building – The White House. Most visitors start at the National Mall, a huge park stretching from the Potomac River to the Capitol Building. It also encompasses the Washington Monument obelisk and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, of particular significance in US civil rights, commemorated by the latest addition - the Martin Luther King Memorial.

Also here are 11 of the city’s 17 incredible Smithsonian museums, including the unmissable National Museum of American History.

If all this gets too much, wander around Georgetown’s Colonial buildings and take a break in one of the student cafés. Many world cuisines are represented in Washington DC and the city also has its fair share of live music venues, with a surprisingly good jazz scene. The National Symphony Orchestra is based here and the Kennedy Center hosts a range of productions.

DC’s planning policy means there are no skyscrapers, so if you fly into Washingon Dulles Airport over the city, you see its white buildings standing proud. The city is also served by Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington National Airport. All are quite a way out, so leave plenty of time to get there from your hotel, apartment or guesthouse booked through Booking.com.

Great city, so much to see and a must-see, if you're an American. For international tourists, it's a great sight, pretty expensive, but overall a great city. If budget is not a concern, go for it; if it is, though, it might not be a must-see in terms of other cities in the U.S. as a foreigner.

We love the tours that we took of the We also got to take the engraving and printing of money. We also got to watch them being in the house on the floor, making laws or whatever they do. We have to sit in on that session. Overall, it was a good experience. I would’ve loved to got up closer to the White House. We did have a tour schedule, but it got canceled so hopefully next time we go that we can get that done but all in all we had a good time so we were excited

Where to begin? There is so much to see in this city.

Where to begin? There is so much to see in this city. So much wonderful architecture and rich history of our great country. Museums are just the surface. In our 6 days there we were able to fit in: hop on/hop off bus night tour, Ford's theatre, FBI experience, Arlington cemetery, International spy museum, US Capitol Building, Library of Congress, Washington monument, the People's House, the Pentagon, Kennedy Center, Museum of the Bible, O Museum, National gallery of art, and the National Archives... And, we still didn't see half of what there is to see there. The metro is very efficient, timely, and safe - we used it to get almost everywhere. Wear good shoes and be prepared to walk a lot.

it is a very nice city, surprisingly it has a bad reputation which i see no real reason for, it is very clean, lot of police so it feels safe. whether is not as bad as they say. only thing is, that it is really awful place to make shopping! no real Malles, no real shopping areas with large stores and also rather expensive. but all and all i would recommend visiting.

I liked seeing the National Guard on the streets and the Metro. I would not have scheduled the trip had the city not been made safe. Had been waiting years to return and finally had the chance to see the Smithsonian museums again which were amazing.

The city was remarkably clean with no litter and no graffiti. Beautiful architecture kept in pristine condition. Security was extremely tight with an excessive number of police and National Guard patrols- a bit excessive in my opinion. Be prepared to do a lot of walking in Washington-distances are a lot further than they seem!

I stayed 1 night with my family at AC Hotel by Marriott Washington DC and had a really enjoyable experience. The location is perfect, close to major attractions and easy to get around the city. The staff were welcoming and helpful, making the check-in smooth and the stay comfortable. We also enjoyed the restaurant’s breakfast, which had a good variety and very kind staff looking after us. Although it was only a short stay, everything went very well, and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Washington DC.

I absolutely loved our stay in Hotel Washington! Room was comfortable, initially was a bit disappointed since we got a room with no view BUT in the end it was ok because it was a quiet area, we were undisturbed and we got the best night's sleep on all the days we were staying here. The staff were welcoming especially Ermelita and Mary from the FD. The location is wonderful - very close to the White House, lots of restaurants in the general area, Museums are a few mins walk. Felt very safe in the neighborhood and the hotel.

The apartment was much bigger than expected - comfortable, lots of room, kitchen area so we could cater for ourselves with breakfast and some evenings which makes things so much easier - and cheaper. Good location from which we could explore central Washington on foot.

So far the best if you want something cheap for a night or two. It's also close to city center and to a huge supermarket.
