This was my third stay now and it keeps impressing me. Tranquil building, polite staff, excellent food and extras like drinks and snacks during the day.
It is very relaxing and quiet inside and you can soak in the outside and inside bath as much as you want (private and public).
Thank you again for the spontaneous pick up from the bus station when it started pouring.
Can recommend at least 2 nights including dinner and breakfast and take your time to get out of the busy cities.

This ryokan has immense charm and felt like an incredible bargain for the price. The staff went above and beyond to be hospitable, were always welcoming, patient and truly sought to understand and address whatever my needs were. The room felt large and had everything needed for a stay where you can relax and unwind from the intensity of everyday life. If it's available, going for the included breakfast and dinner option is a must. The food was high quality, diverse and always changing. This place has it's own onsen, which was freely available to guests throughout the night and early hours of the morning. There were multiple times where I soaked under the stars and had the place all to myself (if you are new to onsen culture, this can be a nice way to ease yourself into it). This place is special and worth revisiting.
Nestled between untouched nature in the tranquil Northern Alps area, Hidaji offers spacious Japanese-style accommodations with traditional architecture.

This place was incredible. I cannot write enough good things about it! The service was above and beyond (even relative to the generally high standard in Japan). The food was delicious and plentiful, and the whole place was so serene. There are three onsen options - a "regular" public one, three private ones on a first-come-first-serve bases, and an outdoor public one with incredible views of a waterfall. We visited all three and all were great. We never had trouble getting one of the private ones when we wanted to, and the others weren't crowded either. The staff and waiters were very helpful and accomodating, and the whole experience was thoroughly relaxing.
Worth noting that a short walk (maybe 5 minutes) from the hotel is the start of a hiking trail with amazing views (a good way to fill the time between soaks ;) ).
