Surrounded by natural rainforest on New Zealand's West Coast, Te Waonui Forest Retreat is a short drive from Franz Josef Glacier. Guests enjoy free WiFi.

This five-star retreat offers luxuriously appointed rooms which include organic cotton bed sheets and large private bathrooms. The location in the middle of the temperate rainforest and its access to the Franz-Joseph glacier is great. Ample parking. The hotel is beautifully decorated, and you feel connected to nature. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable and well organized. We loved the bird sounds playing in the room and the bathroom. Awesome turndown service at night with glass water bottles & delish chocolates. Great laundry facilities on site. They truly matched the sounds of the real birds outdoors. The staff was absolutely 100% professional, helpful and accommodating. First class! The five course dinners were delicious and we really enjoyed the view tables They reserved for us each evening. We really like the all inclusive aspect of this retreat as you are pretty isolated once you arrive in France Joseph. This is a cozy spot to end up in at the end of the day!

Be mindful that the Receptionist may not be local so you’ll have to find out information about the facilities or area on your own or elsewhere. Friendly, quiet, private enough, clean, safe. It is a backpackers/hostel so don’t expect a five star treatment.

    Amazing accommodation. We have travelled around the South Island for the last two weeks in seven different apartments and this property is by far the best. The attention to detail, from the large fluffy towels, beautiful bedding, three types of breakfast cereal and quality coffee was outstanding. The location was quiet and the uninterrupted view of the Tasman was so beautiful. We felt like we were in a five star hotel.

    Stunning Gardens! The lantern lights that lit up in the evenings around the gardens was beautiful. Our 11yr old always escaped in the Den to play darts. Great selection of board games, ring toss & a trampoline kept him busy which was great. The Wifi coverage was 💯 times better than the fancy 5 star hotels 😊
