Stayed in AKAO house for 2 nights before and after Colca Canyon trek. Fabiola and her family are such friendly people and are always able to accommodate your needs. I arrived in Arequipa at 5:30 in the morning, luckily my bed was available and they let me check in early to get some sleep. Comfy bed and hot showers. I'm really glad I chose to stay here

La casa de Melgar Rooms are divided by beautiful little courtyards full of flowers and trees. The staff are welcoming and friendly and very helpful, in particular Lydia, who speaks good English, and organised an early check-in for our morning arrival on the Cruz Del Sur bus. She also booked a taxi for our departure, which was far better than dealing with uber. There are a number of laundries just nearby which is very convenient when you are travelling around a lot. This hotel is a very tranquil place to stay in a big busy city. We had two very good night’s sleep owing to the peace and quiet. Our room was enormous 22 feet by 16 feet with a fine arched brick ceiling 12 to 15 feet high. The extremely comfortable double bed measured a huge 7 foot by 7 foot with four - nice! Everywhere in this hotel is filled with old world character and charm. From the 11 foot high double French doors with shutters to the thoughtful provision of a wardrobe, bedside tables, 2 sofas, a desk and a rack to put your baggage on. The solid thick stone walls are cool by day in the summer and warm at night. However, the 18th century styling does not in any way compromise the modern facilities. Wi-Fi is strong and consistent. There are electrical sockets all around the room for charging phones. The rooms are well lit. The large en-suite bathroom has a strong shower over a bath with lots of hot water. A hairdryer, clean fresh towels and soft loo roll are all provided free of charge and the room is impeccably clean at all times.

Everything was really clean and comfortable. There is coffee and Tea for free and the owner even invited us for the breakfast. The employees were really welcoming und helpful.

The staff has been very kind to me, allowing me to deposit my luggage and stay pretty longer in the public areas waiting for my transport. Also very nice in recommending places to eat.

Great location, only a few minutes walk to Plaza de Armas, clean beds and hot showers, great view of the volcano from the rooftop, kitchen available for use, and very helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Comfortable bed, great shower and the service was above and beyond (eg we could leave our luggage in the room to be collected for storage during a two day hike and it was in our room when we returned, and, we were given a breakfast box when having an early start)

The owner was so welcoming and accommodating. The breakfast was fantastic, they even bought gluten free tortillas for me as I have an allergy. We were able to leave our bags here while we did an excursion for a few days and also to use a spare room for a shower on our return. The owner still remembered my name after our return, so friendly. The rooms were comfortable and quiet and the location is walking distance to town. We would highly recommend staying here!

We really enjoyed our stay here. Excellent value for money. A bit further from the main square (10-15 minutes walk) but still walkable and close to shops, restaurants and other amenities. Room was spacious with a TV and a powerful shower. Breakfast was plentiful with fruit, yogurt, bread and eggs cooked to your liking. Allowed us to leave our bags while we did the 2-day Colca Canyon trek which was helpful. 24-hour reception which was helpful for early morning pick ups.

We stayed here twice, the first room was so beautiful with incredible rooms over the city. It has a very cute communal area that can be used by the three different rooms with nice touches, and behind the beds is the white arequipa rock. Both rooms were very comfortable and spacious.
