The staff were really friendly and helpful. The facilities were great so we managed to do everything we needed there like our washing etc as we had been travelling in a van for a while. Kitchen was huge and they provided things for breakfast. There were some big common rooms for people to enjoy. Location was perfect as really central. We also went to the cinema which I would highly recommend as it was very nice.

The new owners (Dec 2024) are very hard working. The kitchen has a great work space, fridges, etc. They are working at updating the older building... it used to be a rectory, it is gorgeous. I would definitely stay there again, towels need to be rented.

This place has a special charm that truly matches the vibe of the town. Everything is spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you might need for a comfortable stay: hot water, parking, a spacious bathroom, and a very clean and organized kitchen. The room was already warm when we arrived, which was such a thoughtful detail. There’s also a cozy common area with lots of movies, books, games, and even souvenirs for sale, which makes the stay feel even more welcoming. The host is extremely kind, always checking in to make sure you have everything you need, communicates very well, and gives great local tips. The house has such a beautiful and positive energy. The neighborhood is lovely: while walking around we saw many charming gardens, and at the end of the street there’s a wonderful view of the old chimney, the bridge, and the forest with its cliffs. You can even walk to the chimney, cross the bridge, and stroll along the train tracks. All in all, it’s a place I would definitely come back to!

Liked the quirkiness the place. Owner very friendly. You can cook or food options nearby. Great value for money. Shared bathrooms not a problem as place full and never had to wait. Great location. Parking in carpark behind the hostel

Second time staying at the Global Village, and it's still one of the best hostels in NZ. It's clean, it's comfortable, it's got good vibes and it's quiet. It's a well run ship.

It's a lovely hostel, a bit further away from the train station and city centre but they offer you a ride if you come or leave by bus so it's not a big deal. There is also a supermarket quite close. Staff is very friendly, common spaces are clean. Rooms are spacious, bunk beds are good. Would recommend.
