Hostels in Dar es Salaam

AIR CONDITIONING! Very clean, modern rooms, hot water, good common area, nice fresh breakfast, great friendly staff and great location. Go to Club Afrikando restaurant near by! Best restaurant I've been to in my 2 months in East Africa. Brisket short ribs were 10/10. Seriously incredible spot and only 3 minute walk away.

The Gallivanters became my home from home. The staff are so friendly and nice. You get breakfast everyday and also are able to use the kitchen if you would like to make your own food. The ladies working there will also wash your clothes for a little fee. The rooms were very nice with comfortable beds ( I might like them harder than most people though). The bathrooms were cleaned every day. They have a nice outside area both by the pool and on the porches. If you need to relax with a movie they also have a tv with Netflix. I also appreciated them putting out the spirals to keep mosquitos away. The area Masaki is also very nice with many good restaurants, clubs and cafes around. It is also very safe and I never felt scared or unsafe. The supermarket is also very close. Would definitely recommend and if I ever come back to Dar es Salaam this is where I will stay.

The place is really nice, the host is amazing and welcoming! We’ll definitely come back to this place if we will be in Dar again:) Also important thing for travelers, if you have laundry to do - you can do it here!

What an oasis of calm Mgulani Lodge hotel offers. Having never been to Dar, we were so grateful of the The Salvation Army Compound this hostel is linked with, offering a space of tranquility in a city that feels like it never stops. It very quickly felt like a home away from home. And the staff were willing to help with anything you asked. It was a real pleasure meeting the team, and even better knowing any money they make off your room booking goes into helping other programmes that the organisation are running in Tanzania.
