This was my favorite stay in Central America and definitely the best breakfast in Nicaragua! Beautiful property with goat, chickens, birds, puppy, pig, and the kindest couple there to welcome you and make sure you have everything you need. It felt like staying with family, they were watching out for me and helped me arrange all of the activities I wanted to try with trusted guides. I loved walking through the neighborhood to get there- it's worth the sweaty trek. You really get to see how the locals live. Kids running in the street to say "hi!" to you. I felt safe walking alone, even at night.

La Urraca Loca Hostel has a garden, terrace, a restaurant and bar in Balgue. Featuring barbecue facilities, the property is located within 12 km of Maderas Volcano. The accommodation features a shared kitchen, a tour desk and currency exchange for guests. What a gem of a place! We had the private double room over the kitchen and it had everything we could have needed. It was quiet, clean, and one of the best places we’ve stayed on our CA trip so far. The host was lovely and friendly, laundry was done super quickly. One minor comment was that we would have loved it if the kitchen had a toaster and kettle.

Nice location, walking distance to town/the ferry but quiet and away from the commotion.

At the hostel, every room is equipped with a patio with a garden view. All units at Sophie House are equipped with a private bathroom and bed linen. It’s a bit aside from the port city Moyogalpa, so it’s very calm and almost no cars and people here, but still easy to reach by foot from the Centre (15 min walk). It has breakfast included and it’s home cooked food by the family. My room was very spacious, with 1 double and 1 single bed. They had outlets outside and inside, so i could work online here. Ask for both WiFi passwords! The host family was very nice and always tried to help, like when I needed a dentist they found a number. They don’t speak English (as most locals here) but with my broken Spanish and google translate we always understood each other. You can also ask them about the laundry option. Thanks for hosting me!

She helped us with everything, we got sick and she literally took care of us. The location is great and the rooms are big enough with private bathroom, the breakfast was amazing as well.

We are in the Nicaraguan Ometepe Island, on the jungle slopes of the volcano Maderas 30km from the port town of Moyogalpa, between Santa Cruz and Balgue . El Zopilote is a unique place! The gardens are beautiful, and I loved learning about their oyster mushroom cultivation. i loved yoga, tours, and pizza night! The atmosphere was friendly and the food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommended!

At the hostel, every room includes a terrace. The units feature a safety deposit box. We stayed in one of the new private rooms which had a bathroom. Nice distance from the party on a Wednesday so no issues with sleeping. Staff were super helpful. Easy to rent a scooter at the accomodation to get to all the main sights.

Situated in Las Pilas, 17 km from Maderas Volcano, Rainbow Caravan Hostel features accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a restaurant. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen and free WiFi throughout the property. The place was very clean and tidy, tranquil, and no noise at night which is rare in Nicaragua because there's always someone making some noise. The food was quality, homemade vegan goodness. Making a fire was cool and it has all the modern amenities like a fridge and cooking equipment so you can bring beer. Didn't have any bugs unlike some of the other hostels i stayed in on Ometepe. It's quite a good location equidistance between the two towns and near the start of Volcan Concepción. I recommend renting an ATV rather than a scooter at the port and picking it up in Ometepe, don't trust the people on the San Jorge side. The hostel also offers scooter rental although I picked mine up at port. Very photogenic hostel and peaceful.

Learned this was one of the original hostels on Ometepe. Breakfasts and dinners were freshly prepared with local ingredients. Their dogs and cats were very nice to spend time with. The hosts can lease scooters and deliver them for competitive prices. Communication with host prior to and during stay was excellent.
