Located downtown, the King Edward Bed and Breakfast offers the discriminating traveler a chance to experience the charm of a bygone era while enjoying an array of modern amenities. Built in 1902, the Auberge King Edward Bed and Breakfast has as much character inside its walls as outside. From floor to ceiling the entire structure has been painstakingly refurbished. Its charm begins even before you're greeted at the front door. The front yard is covered with thousands of tulips in the Spring and, during the Summer months, hundreds of perennial plants of all varieties give it an English garden appeal. It boasts one of the most beautiful gardens downtown.
The owner is an enthusiastic gardener who also loves to travel to the far corners of the earth.
The restored building is located on a designated heritage block in the historic downtown neighbourhood of Sandy Hill. Sandy Hill is walking distance to excellent dining in the Byward Market and shopping at the Rideau Centre shopping mall and is one of Ottawa's most historical and easily recognized neighbourhoods. It was first established in the early nineteenth century and, at the time, it was Ottawa's wealthiest neighbourhood, home to the most influential dignitaries, politicians and residents of the day. With the establishment the University of Ottawa, the neighbourhood became more densely populated and middle class. During the last few decades, many of the grand mansions have become embassies and this neighbourhood now boasts over thirty embassies. This eclectic neighbourhood is highly desirable because of it's central downtown location. Because of its downtown location, this B&B is within easy walking distance of all major attractions in the city including Parliament Hill, the Rideau Canal, the National Arts Centre, the National Gallery, the Government Conference Centre, the Museum of Civilization, the Ottawa Convention Centre and the ByWard Market.
