The cabin was so beautiful and it contained a fireplace that was set up and ready to go. The staff was so helpful and when my friend had a minor medical issue he helped me navigate a medical system in a country we are unfamiliar with.

Welcome to Ancarraig! Much loved and very well established self-catering lodges in a a prime yet tranquil spot overlooking Loch Ness. Under brand new ownership in 2016, there are many improvements, additions, renovations, refurbishments being made to make the Ancarraig experience even more special for our guests. Why not take a trip up to the magical Highlands to explore Loch Ness (and perhaps catch a glimpse of its most famous inhabitant!). Come rain or shine, summer or winter, Scotland's beautiful landscape and plentiful range of activities means there is most certainly something for everyone.
One of our absolute favourite things to do is to pack up a backpack of supplies and hike far into the wilderness where we spot various types of deer, buzzards and eagles soaring above us, black grouse, pheasant, pine marten, mountain hare and red squirrels all in their natural habitat (we are also lucky enough to have these at Ancarraig too, and even heron in our own private lochan). Seeing the view of the Loch from Urquhart Castle is an absolute must, all rounded off with a pint of the locally brewed beer and some incredible food at The Loch Ness Inn, which is just 3 miles from Ancarraig.
The popular village of Drumnadrochit is 3 miles away and offers a variety of pubs, restaurants, a small food market, pharmacy, bakery, hairdresser, a post office and bank with ATM. Drumnadrochit has won awards for its stunning floral displays, including the famous miniature floral castle on the village green. There are various boat trips based in or near the village, on which you can explore Loch Ness and spectacular Urquhart Castle. The Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition is also there to educate, fascinate or add fun to your day. Pony trekking, mountain biking or just exploring the many miles of forest and mountain tracks are all available on your doorstep. For those who prefer to get about on two wheels, bike hire is available at Ticket to Ride Highlands. Being situated on the main east/west route across the Highlands, a stay at Ancarraig facilitates a visit to range of venues within a couple of hours drive to the east or west. Fort Augustus, Fort William, The Isle of Skye, Ullapool, Gairloch, The Black Isle, Aviemore, the Cairngorm Mountains and the Malt Whisky Trail are all easily within a round day trip, with Inverness city just 17 miles away. The perfect base!
