Elmfield was perfect: perfect host, perfect facility, perfect gardens, perfect breakfast. The property exceeded my expectations when I booked. We also were taken in by the historical church, public walking paths and Northlew's welcoming residents.

I have stayed at Elmfield before and knew when I needed a stop over in North Devon, there was no question about where to stay. Martin goes over and above to provide a lovely stay. The room, for a solo traveller is small but contains everything...

Tracy was very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and excellently presented. Lots of local knowledge shared which led us to spending the day with villagers to celebrate the local brass bands who were playing in the village square.

The old farmhouse is left with just an acre of land for guests to relax and enjoy. Weather permitting we have been known to serve breakfast under the lime tree! It is a traditional Georgian style dating from 1836 and stuffed with antiques and memorabilia due to my magpie nature.
I was a director of the Conservative Party and then a Political Secretary to a number of MEPs I have been known to describe myself as a 'salesman' - very often of an inferior product! However it has resulted in a fascination for all things political mostly from the nineteenth century and earlier. I am also a theatre and opera addict.
The advantages of Elmfield include the easy access from the A30, the proximity to Dartmoor and we are almost equidistant from both north and south coasts. The village itself is remote and night clubs could be difficult to find! However the local pub (the Green Dragon) gets quite lively from time to time! (I declare a pecuniary interest!)
