Property information

Steeped in history, The Old Sawpit is the upper floor of a traditional stone Lakeland building which lies above an original saw pit where cartwheels were made by the Elterwater wheelwrights. It sleeps four in 2 bedrooms - a double and a twin which share a bathroom. Located in the picturesque village of Elterwater, this cottage has been a long time favourite for walkers enjoying strolls along the river or taking on the challenge of more strenuous walks. Relax with a tipple of your choice on the iron bench, at the top of the Old Sawpit steps, watching the sheep graze on the common or warm yourself in front of the log burning fire in the cosy lounge. Private off-road parking for one car is available onsite and we welcome up to two well behaved dogs.

Neighbourhood information

Elterwater is a charming village in the heart of Langdale with some of the best walking – we like to think this is the heart of the Lake District. Leave the car parked up for the week, and enjoy walks from your doorstep. For those wanting to explore further afield, please note that the bus stops right opposite Elterwater’s magnificent maple tree. Buses are frequent and connect guests with the wider towns and outstanding scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leaving the car behind and jumping on a bus to explore the National Park not only helps to look after the spectacular landscape but also gives passengers the opportunity to see it without the challenge of negotiating narrow, and sometimes steep, country lanes or search for parking at your destination. By sitting back watching the landscape go by, the journey becomes part of your adventure! The Britannia Inn in the heart of the village is a local family pub or, for a more formal dining treat, the welcoming Eltermere Inn Hotel is a short stroll away across the stone bridge that spans the beck. The local village shop in Chapel Stile is less than a mile away and very well equipped for all your needs.
