Property info

The Whitewashed Houses are a typical example of Santorinian architecture. Constructed in 1880, it was initially a large cave house built right into the volcanic rock. In 2018 it was fully renovated and divided into 5 autonomous residences sharing a common courtyard. The renovation was carried out paying respect to the area’s architecture that dictates vaulted ceilings, domes and austere decor. All the houses feature a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning and Wi-Fi. The Whitewashed Houses have two entrances, one from the traditional settlement and one from the road that passes above the house. Guests with a car can park on that road and walk down the 15 steps that will bring them to the entrance of the houses.

Neighborhood info

The traditional settlement of Messaria is located in the heart of the island of Santorini only 2.5 km from Fira and 500 meters away from the village centre where you can find a pharmacy, bakery, supermarket and plenty of restaurants. The settlement consists of cobbled narrow alleys accessible only to pedestrians, bikes and motorbikes. The settlement’s architecture is typical of Santorini featuring private and public spaces that create a magnificent mosaic where a house’s balcony becomes the roof of the house standing right below it. Visitors who choose to stay at the traditional settlement of Messaria will have the chance to experience the other side of Santorini, namely its most traditional and authentic version, while being only a stone’s throw away from the major sights as well as the airport and port.
