Mr. Ryu, the owner of Bukchondaek
Bukchondaek, first built in 1797 (the 21st year of King Jeongjo's reign) and finally completed in 1862 (the 13th year of King Cheoljong's reign), retains its original form, robust and gentle, even after 220 years. Designated National Cultural Heritage and Important Folklore Material No. 84, it stands as a symbol of the spirit and integrity of the scholars who lived by the principle of Noblesse Oblige. Bukchondaek is a place where the spirit and integrity of the scholars who lived by the principle of Noblesse Oblige are alive and well. We want to show you traditional culture, not as a mere visual treat on the streets, but as a living embodiment of the people who lived it. You can enjoy the warmth of Ondol, Korea's traditional heating system that uses oak wood to heat the rooms. The owner, a member of the National Trust of Korea, provides a friendly and detailed explanation of the traditional house.
