With an open plan yet intimate design, our unique accomodation suits a romantic and restful escape or suits those wanting to explore Southland & beyond from a centralised location. Our two unique cabin style bedrooms feature comfortable queen/king sized beds, plenty of storage and soft lighting to create a cosy atmosphere. There is a large main lounge for movie nights on a large screen smart TV & SONOS surround sound system - you can even soak in a hot bath while watching your favourite movie. There is a second lounge to have some quiet space to lay back and read or catch up on work. Our kitchen is perfect for creating a home cooked meal and there is a seperate dining area to enjoy your meals or alternatively a huge breakfast bar in the kitchen to eat and run. Your stay includes a locally curated charcuterie board, a bottle of local wine and a lovely selection of goodies for breakfast. We can also offer bespoke private chef experiences or pre-prepared meals/picnics or packed lunches if required. Please reach out so we can curate your perfect experience. It's the ideal spot to relax and explore at your leisure. Whether you are a keen fisherman or cyclist, a couple wanting a retreat or to book a long stay we can help. Come and discover your essence of comfort at The Lodge Lumsden.
We began our Lumsden journey in 2008 when we bought the Masonic Lodge in Lumsden. The conversion into our home began in 2010 and we have slowly built on this to create what we like to think as an open plan apartment style with a lodge feel. You'll see when you stay some of the before photos and we are so proud of feeling like we have created a really comfortable and relaxing space for others to enjoy. Steve is still busy running Temple Tattoo from the front of the main building miles away from your private retreat. We are always happy to incorporate a tattoo experience for you if you wish. After selling her businesses in 2024, Kel is committed to her passion in hospitality and is able to create and provide bespoke experiences for you as a Private Chef or to meet any needs you wish around food. She is also your host and main point of contact. Alongside running 'The Lodge' she has been a marriage celebrant for 5 years and is happy to put together a bespoke wedding package for those of you that want a private retreat to sneak away and get married but still have something really special planned. Let's talk! Nestled in the heart of Southland, our boutique accommodation blends historic charm with modern comfort. Offering a warm welcome, we ensure a memorable stay with thoughtful amenities in a truly stunning setting. Split into three spaces - this huge 506m2 building is full of history and full of life and we are so happy to welcome to be be a part of The Lodge Lumsden.
Lumsden is fortunate to be situated as an ideal gateway to many sites and activities in both Southland and Otago. There are many opportunities to experience the quiet charm of our community. Our locals are more than happy to provide advice or suggestions around additional activities available. Please enjoy our relaxed atmosphere and easy going ‘Kiwi’ hospitality. We are world famous for our rivers for fly fishing and jet boating. The Oreti River runs close to Lumsden and surrounding townships, offering swimming, fishing, and boating within minutes of our hotel. These crystal clear waters offer world-class trout fishing. Additionally, the scenery presents a rare place to truly relax and unwind, away from the distractions of busy modern life. Further away, the Mataura river supports a thriving bird and fish population. It can be accessed from Gore (45 minutes away), or Mataura (1 hour away). The river originates from the great Lake Wakatipu and is a popular spot for fly fishing in particular.
