We enjoyed our ski trip to Okemo, including this gem of a property in Ludlow. The owners were amazing and made us feel right at home. Drive to the mountain was <5min.

We, that is my husband, our cat Tigger, and myself, dreamed about opening our house as a Bed and Breakfast for years. Maybe it was hosting family and friends frequently since we first came to our new home in the United States. We are originally from Germany (you might hear the accent) and fell in love with New England a long time ago! Vermont specifically intrigued us – mountains, lakes, hiking, skiing, enjoying the outdoors. And the people are just amazing. So when the opportunity came along we took it, and moved up to beautiful Ludlow. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our home. And we hope that you will fall in love with it just as we did.

Property info

The Governor’s Inn was built in 1890 by William Wallace Stickney for his wife Lizzy. It was their primary residence during his time as speaker of the house of the Vermont General Assembly and during his tenure as the Governor of Vermont. The building was was turned into a Bed & Breakfast in 1977. It has been named The Governor’s Inn since 1980. Entering the Inn, you can imagine how Governor Stickney welcomed guests to his home. How they warmed close to the fireplace in the entry hall. Closing the large pocket doors to his study for meetings to discuss state business. The fabulous fireplace in the study warming them during these meetings. Just imagine being back in those times. The study is now our guest parlor. Enjoy a book while sitting on the sofas. Or negotiate state business if you want to! The fireplace (now gas-fired) is still there to warm you on a cold evening. And if need be, we can close the pocket doors for you. Throughout the building, you will find a lot of the original features of the building – from the woodwork in the entrance, the stairways, the windows and doors, to the stained-glass windows in the front and in the staircase.
