Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi
Located within 4.1 km of Jigokudani Monkey Park and 10 km of Ryuoo Ski Park in Yamanouchi, Yorozuya features accommodation with seating area. This ryokan provides free private parking, a 24-hour front desk and free WiFi. Guests also enjoy access to the hot spring bath and hot tub, as well as the public bath and open-air bath. Just wow, beautiful location, amazing food, the staff were lovely. Not sure you could find anything more traditional. A really awe inspiring experience. The onsen was soo beautiful. A shame that the men get the most time in the Momoyama section as it is jaw droppingly beautiful and would be so cool to watch the day break from there. Great that you can take photos in the morning before you depart. So atmospheric at night. Not touristy at all and full of locals. Scrub up on your Japanese before you go!
Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi
A 5-minute walk from Yudanaka Train Station, Tawaraya offers Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. Guests can relax in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths and wear colorful Japanese Yukata robes. Massages can be requested for an extra cost. The main purpose of visiting was taking an outdoor onsen (an amazing experience that now I want to do more often). The owners are welcoming and kind, they do their job with love and effort! It was also my first time trying traditional Japanese dinner - I'm glad I decided to order it (the breakfast was great too). They also sell nice souvenirs. There is Snow Monkey park not far from the town, I highly recommend to visit! As well as two local cafes I also visited: CASE山ノ内 and Tea Salon Miyako.
Shibu Onsen, Yamanouchi
At Daymaruya Ryokan, guests can enjoy hot-spring baths and traditional Japanese-style accommodations with free wired internet access. A free shuttle is available from Yudanaka Train Station, which is a 5-minute drive away. This was our first stay at a ryokan. Our hosts were very pleasant and attentive. We couldn't have asked for a kinder welcome. Our host came to the train station to pick us up, showed us around and provided us with lots of information about things to do around Shibu Onsen. His recommendation of Enza Cafe and its food was excellent. We were also able to borrow ice cleats for our walk to the snow monkey park. Our hostess delivered a traditional homemade Japanese breakfast to our room in the morning. The meal was presented beautifully in a lacquer box and it was delicious and healthy.
Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi

Worth every cent I paid for, for the junior suite. Service impeccable from arrival to departure where owner lady saw us out. The view of the river out front and mountains backdrop is awesome. Wifi is great, and room very comfortable. We still miss our own private little onsen tub. Private dinner experience excellent, though you might want to order more food (from additional a la carte menu) if you tend to eat a lot. Sweet old owner lady went around briefly greeting all the guests. Lounge (access came with room) very neat and cool, with wine & charcuterie served 5-7p. I could go on and on, but this is by far the best traditional-style stay my entire Japan trip, next to the new Waldorf Osaka modern-style stay I had. It's everything I dreamed a ryokan experience would be & more. Definitely ticked off my bucket list item.
Shiga Highlands, Yamanouchi
The ryokan will provide guests with air-conditioned units with a desk, a kettle, a fridge, a safety deposit box, a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom with a hot tub. At the ryokan, units are fitted with bed linen and towels. Absolutely a gem!!! Food was one of the best in the entire trip to Japan. Some staff spoke English and went out of their way to make the experience memorable. The onsen is natural hot springs with nice sulfur smell. Loved every second of this place. Would happily return.
Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi

This 5-star hotel offers room service, a concierge service and free WiFi. Guests can use the spa and wellness centre with a hot tub, and hot spring bath, as well as a bar. We had a great stay at Shoraiso for our honeymoon in December. Service is unparalleled and the staff are doing above and beyond to make us feel like home without being intrusive. We love the elephant decor of the room and the beautifully landscaped garden, and the private onsen is definitely the highlight of our trip. Breakfast and dinner are included and the food is just exceptional (very tasty with fresh local ingredient and creative presentation). The location is quite convenient - 45min train from Nagano to Yudanaka station and hotel is just a few min drive away (the hotel can arrange pick up). Monkey park is quite close (around 15min taxi away). Overall we couldn’t recommend this hotel more!

Yamanouchi
Spacious rooms feature wood interior, an en suite bathroom and air conditioning/heating. Guests can enjoy the view of Okushiga Kogen from the comfort of their own rooms. All rooms are equipped with an electric kettle, free toiletries and a TV. The lounge is absolutely the highlight, here the Grand Phenix shares three things with you: great local draft beer, a gentle Okushiga snowing view, and a warm firepit. This lounge is so special that you can wait for your dinner table (because of the tight reservation in Christmas season) there while drinking your drinks by a bonfire, this even makes waiting a wonderful experience...

The three onsens were great, so fun just having a quick spa whenever you felt like it day or night! Very flexible with food preferences/dietary requirements they are able to cater to anyone Yudanaka town was pretty quiet in spring, not much going on but very relaxing nonetheless The rooms were very clean and so spacious The scenery around this part of Japan is way more beautiful than I had expected Easy to get here - one 45 min train from nagano station
Rooms were really spacious and you have access to private onsen baths. We had dinner there (which needs to be reserved beforehand), which was truly amazing, we highly recommend having the meal along with the room!
The staff were very friendly and all the facilities were fantastic. The room we had was great with a private bath and sauna. A very relaxing atmosphere. The food was also very good.
The location was very convenient, clean and spacious. We are a family of 4 and had plenty of room. The property has its own baths and private onsen to access as well as very close to the 9 public onsens.
A beautiful Onsen-Ryokan located in a quiet and tranquil area not too far from the Snow Monkey Park. The facilities are beautiful, especially the large spacious rooms with private onsens. The dinner was fantastic, and a great introduction to traditional, local Japanese cuisine. There are many rooms and quiet areas throughout the Ryokan to sit and relax. The staff were lovely and accommodating and we loved our visit.
We loved our stay here. The highlight was the onsen in the hotel. The staff were so keen to help and provided a shuttle to the Snow Monkeys, station and also offered to shuttle us to dinner. The breakfast was great, with many options. The room was spacious and clean. The private bathroom and shower/bath was great. The fridge and tea making facilities were appreciated. Highly recommend for your stay Yudanaka.
Very spacious and beautiful room with 2 indoor public onsens (1 each for men and women) then a small private onsen you can reserve. Did not try outdoor onsen but overall facilities were great to relax. Host was very helpful and kind and dropped us of at monkey park. Location is great, situated in beautiful town of yudanaka walking distance from station.
The place is charming, the host and his family are the kindest and will go out of their way to please you and help with your requests. The rooms are spacious and very traditional. There are two Onsen, both super relaxing and very well taken care of. Finally, the breakfast was delicious!
Great location ski on ski off nice classy hotel with free tea & coffee. Baths & lounge to relax. Shop sells snacks. Friendly helpful staff
Staff were all very kind and attentive in showing us our rooms and during dinner. They helped us book a taxi to the snow monkey park, and shuttled us back to the train station. Rooms were clean and spacious. Our room has western style beds which were comfortable. The private onsen in our room made it very easy to have a relaxing bath whenever we wanted. Dinner and breakfast were beautifully prepared.
