Notre Dame de Chartres is almost through an extensive (and expensive) refurbishment. Now the inside outshines any cathedral I have visited, save the Sagrada Familia. I haven't been inside Notre Dame de Paris since the reconstruction, but this surely must be on a par. The exterior is illuminated as part of the lumiere, and the effect is astonishing. A stunning interior with a fantastic 'choir wall' - a carved piece of stone architecture and sculpture that stands over 6 metres tall and 100m long. It's absolutely breathtaking how much detail it holds as it consists of 29 scenes on the lives of the Virgin Mary & Jesus - if you like to see stunning sculptures then you'll love this!
