Absolutely loved seeing kabuki for the first time!

Absolutely loved seeing kabuki for the first time! Some tips: if you’re not someone who already enjoys theater, you might not enjoy sitting through the whole 3.5-4 hour show. Instead, it might be better to get the less expensive single act standing tickets the day of, if you just want to experience kabuki a little. 100% get the English audio guides if your Japanese isn’t great (and even if it is, it would probably help for understanding the context of what is going on). I chose to sit in the balcony A seats, but wish I’d splurged on second class, or even first class seats. Sometimes it was a little hard to see the whole stage from the balcony, and the seats below offer a much better view/more immersive experience. Make sure to purchase a bento to eat during intermission before entering (you can buy them in the basement). There are not a lot of food options in the theater, but plenty of drink options (and taiyaki if you’re looking for a quick snack). The intermissions are long (30 and 20 minutes respectively), but break up the show well.
