Palenque Ruins
This ruined temple was never completely finished. It was supposed to be the largest Doric temple in existence until Sicily was overrun by the Carthaginians who sacked it – and a series of earthquakes toppled the rest. What’s left is a tantalizing succession of columns and a couple of giant cracked figures of Atlas lying on the floor. It takes some imagination to envision it in its heyday, but its ruins have a mystique that a pristine monument just can't.

Nice ruins.
Nice ruins. Some are still accessible, the centre court unfortunately not. You cannot get inside the main ruin anymore. Very expensive (parking is mandatory, minivan to go there, entrance fee is high and guides are super expensive). Again, very nice ruins but the Mexicans are a bit ruining the experience by milking the tourists. At a point in the future, people will just start looking it up on internet and tourism will collapse... Sad...Guest review byErnstBelgium

Three minutes (walk) from the bus station, 7-8 minutes from the downtown area. Bigger store maybe 5 minutes away for more convenience. Easy colectivos and taxis to the Palenque ruins. Everything was in great working order: AC, no noise, great shower, very nice hosts, refrigerator in the main kitchen area. I woke one morning and sat by the pool and watched howler monkeys in the trees just a few yards away. The entrance to the national park where the Palenque ruins are located is right next door. The location to buy tickets to Palenque ruins and catch a shuttle are across the street. The grounds of Kin Balam are very tranquil. We liked the location with easy access to Palenque ruins. There were also a couple of restaurants nearby. We had dinner two nights in a row at Paraiso and it was quite good - excellent pizza! Adriana made fresh and hearty breakfasts for us each morning and it was fun chatting with her about her work rescuing the monkeys. My room was fairly basic although I loved the little terrace facing trees. And the common areas are lovely. Yes the pool is small but it was very refreshing at the end of the day.
