Absolutely everything, location is fantastic, the breakfast is wonderful, there are a lot of free things which really makes you feel so welcome. We had access to free laundry facilities, our fridge had free drinks in it, the staff were just amazing and the location was brilliant

Absolutely amazing! Our best experience in Japan! The ryokan is so well let and well decorated, and everyone was very accommodating and kind. The onsen was also great and breakfast was delicious. I would come to Takayama again just for the chance to stay here again.

The family was so nice and helpful. The house gives the original flavour of old Japan. The Japanese style breakfast (miso soup, deer meat, baked fish) was delicious. Futons were very comfortable. It was our most exciting stay during two weeks in Japan! We really recommend it.

We were invited to attend the morning ceremony of Heart Sutra chanting and the experience was very unique. The environment was beautiful and facilities were neat and well organised. There's only one bathroom to share with two other rooms so sometimes there might be a queue.

The reception area, where we met our wonderful host, was stunning, setting the tone for our experience. We were greeted with tea and snacks, which was such a thoughtful touch. The hospitality continued as we were kindly driven to our house, which surpassed all our expectations. It was the quintessential traditional Japanese experience, blending authenticity with comfort. Every detail was perfect—from the delicious breakfast delivered to our door each morning to the serene outdoor tub, the plush and cozy beds, and the exquisite Japanese décor. Very very spacious, with a dedicated “camping themed” room where the whole family can watch movies on projector screen (even has popcorn machine!!!). Staff are generous with their smiles and breakfast was awesome. 5 stars rating from everyone in my family, no doubt.

Very good hotel with a large room for Japanese standards The room had a small kitchen with a single electric pit to cook on, and the frigide came with complementary drinks and spices. The bath is pretty big as well. Staff was very friendly and accomodating and the breakfast was good with a chef grilling chicken skewers and making pancakes.

although the room itself was very simple (as advertised) these monks really know what they are doing in terms of what matters in accommodation. Towels were thick, luxurious and impeccably white. Shampoos etc, and shared living room architecture were of top quality. Also proper coffee bags in the kitchen instead of jars of instant!. and nice that they could give restaurant recommendations, and are open enough to let foreign tourists share their prayer service. it was a lovely traditional cultural experience.
