This Ryokan is so beautiful and peaceful. You have to drive a bit from the city center. However, it was well worth it. When we got to our accommodation, the staff was already expecting us, she knew where we came from , and her English was really good. She sat us down for our check-in process. It felt like we paid a million dollars for this kind of customer service. She took us through our check-in process, dinner time, booked our private onsen, told us a bit about the Ryokan, booked breakfast time, and then she took us right up to our room. Our room was a riverside view, which was so amazing. Our food for dinner and breakfast was the best we had compared to other hotels around the world we've tried so far. This was all done in our own private dining room. Our private onsen also had a great view. I can not say enough good things about this place. We will come back here again when possible.

This ryokan took us by surprise, as soon as you approach the property you feel its grandeur. We were greeted upon arrival as we drove in, and the great hospitality continued throughout. The house is old but very charming. We had a lovely bamboo garden view room which was great to relax in, as well as large cypress tub. We used the outdoor Onsen in the morning after breakfast and this was a highlight - we loved the outdoor one which was small but very peaceful and perfect - I could’ve stayed there forever! Breakfast was well thought-out and delicious, and dinner was very generously portioned and brought to our room. This was a real highlight stay for our honeymoon, we bought some miso from the in-house shop, and the hosts gave us small gifts for our honeymoon which was so cute. Thank you for an amazing day, we’d love to come back one day!

The photos dont do the rooms justice. It's nicer than on the photos. Staff were very keen to help even though we can't really understand japanese and needed to use the translator app to communicate. Onsen is clean and not crowded when we went so we have the whole place to ourselves. The dinner is fantastic! And there are also free drinks available to guests during the day at the lobby lounge.

A perfect Onsen in a lush Forrest next to the Sumon river. The different Onsen with public and private ones are fantastic, all of them with outside bath. The rooms are nicely designed and renovated with balcony and all needed amenities. The food (Kaiseki) is delicious, the host is very helpful (in English if required).

Rankeisou is a genuine Japanese Inn, a local gem for one unforgettable experience! Everything was perfect for our last night in Japan, from the greeting to the onsen and finishing with a multiple course dinner, my wife and I felt great! Thank you once again to our host that had the patience to sit with us and tell us more about the place and culture. We will definitely visit again.

Beautiful building in a beautiful location, extremely nice and helpful staff, and the food was excellent, too. The onsen were smaller than they had looked in the pictures, but it was a bliss to be in the outdoor onsen, surrounded by snow.
