The owners are incredibly kind and love their dogs (and puppies!) - dog lovers will feel right at home here. There’s no AC, but the cool nights made it perfectly comfortable. The Wi-Fi runs on Starlink, so the connection was strong. And the food… absolutely amazing - probably the best we had in all of Sumba! Don’t miss their famous lobster soup!

The island itself has surprisingly good roads, so you can rent a practically new scooter on-site and enjoy exploring the entire island while taking in stunning views. The host is exceptionally warm and makes you feel at home from the very first moment. And if you still need to work while away, each villa is equipped with reliable Wi-Fi. A hidden gem on a hidden island—I can’t recommend it enough.

Nice property, secluded and tranquil. We are facilitated with full service, and our children comfort is well taken care off. They are super happy because they can harvested their own vegetable to table. They are building new properties, single unit villas with their own private pools and facilities. Perfect for future romantic escape. Not to forget to mention their exceptional restaurant, Umanga'a. We have a top notch dinning experience celebrating our Wedding Anniversary. We would love to going back to Umarato in our future holiday.

The staff are very friendly and attentive and make it easy to organise trips and activities so you can experience Sumba. Surf lessons are a lot of fun and the village tour and waterfall tour are both great. Cocktails were really good, as was the food at breakfast. The hotel seems to have a good relationship with the local people and seems to have genuinely benefitted Sumba.
