Contemporary design/decor and well maintained grounds made for a visually appealing experience. Rooms are large with a full ensuite bath/shower. Glass wall at the front lets you see the grounds during the day; full set of curtains gives you the necessary privacy at night. For the price I found the value exceptional. Location is close to town but we used Tuk Tuk's to get there and back.

At the guest house, units come with bed linen and towels. This is the most incredible family run hotel, I cannot praise it enough. Located just down the road from the National Park so it's the most perfect resting spot either before or after a Safari. You cannot really describe the tranquility and peaceful ambiance of this hotel, it is incredible! The rooms are immaculately clean, really comfortable and well presented. The owners went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful and were so kind and friendly to both us and our children. The hotel has a fantastic pool which is the perfect place to cool off in the afternoon. The food is some of the best that we have tasted whilst travelling Sri Lanka, completely delicious and freshly cooked dinner and breakfast. The value for money is excellent and you get the feel of high end at a really reasonable price. I'd say that this hotel is a must stay whilst visiting this area. We plan to return on our next trip. My stay in this house felt like a dream. The entrance to the room is surrounded by greenery, giving the impression of being in the middle of the jungle. We also had a safari organized with them, led by a young and capable guide, and it was a wonderful experience. Breakfast in the national park was not only very pleasant but also delicious. Dinner, however, was not satisfying compared to other meals we had in Sri Lanka — the portion of chicken was very small, and overall the food felt a bit lacking.

He built all these houses by himself and tried his best to make you comfortable. Welcome fresh juice on arrival. The house is simple but made with care and the bed was huge and comfortable. The dinner was delicious. Also we suggest to book a safari with the owner.

As we really wanted to see wild elephants, we made a stop in Udawalawe, but spotting them wasn't our biggest suprise here. We stayed at the Amba Kola hotel and this was just the most wonderful experience. The kindest owners truely, the nicest room, a brand new and well kept pool, the most delicious food from the entire trip, and playful dogs amongst which the two most adorable puppies  🐶 As mentionned, the food was incredible and we had the chance to take part in the preparation by doing the cooking class with the owner. Something you should really try after a morning safari.  Janik is also so kind, ready to help you with anything, answer any question. He will make everything in his power to make you feel like the most valuable guest on the planet. If you are passing by, really we can't recommend it enough 😍 (we thought the 10 on booking was impossible. Well we thought wrong)
