The staff accommodated an early access to room as I had booked a spa before check in. The room was amazing, so luxurious and funky. Everything was amazing. It was my birthday so was a very special stay. I used the spa, had a treatment, ate and drank on the wet deck. I fully appreciated the 12pm check out. I ordered room service and really made the most of the room.

A really nice newish hotel with some pretty neat functions: a night light that activates as you approach the bath area and independently shuts off when you return to bed, separate lights for the toilet, shower, and vanity areas that are individually controlled; a nice variable separation wall between the sleeping area and the vanity/bathing area (ie. a huge sliding mirror that separated the 'rooms'). And the front desk staff is exceptionally friendly.

    Beautiful beaches the whole way.

Beautiful beaches the whole way. Roads are busy but you can take the light rail and the bike paths are excellent. The surf clubs are excellent options for dining or drinks with an ocean view. Pacific fair in Broadbeach is an excellent and very large shopping mall for clothing especially. Lots of excellent restaurants, particularly in Broadbeach.

It's a good place to fly into, and go on and see other places, like the far north and Port Douglas, and on the train up to Kuranda. It's just another city, really. My 3rd time there, and apart from good Vietnamese food, (Pho Viet, opposite the library), there is nothing all that appealing. There are very few taxis, I didn't know this- uber is the way to get about apparently. Otherwise get your walking shoes on. It is slightly cheaper to eat out in Cairns than Port Douglas, though.

    Airlie Beach is beautiful.

Airlie Beach is beautiful. It has a mix of young people/back packers and a few us oldies. The main street is full of bars, cafes, restaurants, boutiques and has a major supermarket. On Saturdays it has the community market by the foreshore. The marinas are close and you can get to them by foot. A great walking track along the foreshore. The lagoon pool is at the foreshore. Airlie Hotel, the Deck, Boho for breakfast and the best acai bowls. We had a hire car and only used it to venture further out otherwise we walked everywhere. Did a day trip to Hamilton Island and Whitehaven beach. Lovely to see and experience.

We visited during the annual festival of flowers. Gardens are lovely. There's also interesting things to do for train enthusiasts. Plenty of shopping and dining options without the stampede of big cities. I was pleasantly surprized by the amount of green spaces and parks. Plenty of space to read a book, picnic or just walk through parks. Lovely museum and cafes to suite your needs

Mackay is a beautiful coastal spot, I'm planning another trip there soon. We visited the Marina, and did some shopping at Canelands. We attended an Engagement party with family there and the venue was beautifully set up, staff were so friendly and the weather was beautiful for a swim and fish and chips.

Hervey Bay is the best place in the world to see Humpback Whales whether for the juvenials that are people curious (known as August whales) or the Mothers and Calves which arrive from early September through to the end of October. My focus is only on the whales but there are various trips to K'Gari (formerly Fraser Island) either by organised bus tours, self drive or by boat to the West side where kyaking and beach tours plus whale watching in season is available. See Tasman Venture web site for details.
