- From US$269.71 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,537 reviewsThe minute that we entered the reception area we were greeted by the kindest sweetest staff ever !! It was truly amazing from beginning to end !! My friend was visiting from Canada and sadly needs a wheelchair to get around , I honestly could not believe how helpful and warm and kind everyone was ! The help we received regarding the wheelchair situation was top notch !!! When I say top notch I really mean it ! Our room was perfect as it was also wheelchair accessible!!! I was so worried if I was ever going to find a way to show my friend the Volcano while she was here , it was on the top of her list and if it where not for everyone at the Manoa Resort I don't think we could have done it ! Then let's talk about the spa " WOW " that's the only way to describe it ! We both had massages that sent us straight to heaven !!!! We were so relaxed we could barley keep our eyes open but we knew we had to get into the Mineral Springs lol well after that we ate a fabulous late lunch in the Springs area and ended up falling asleep at the table because we were so relaxed !!! I was so embarrassed hahaha ! I hope no one was looking lol ! Best Margiritas ever !!! I don't think either of us has ever had such an amazing sleep that night !!! Excellent breakfast buffet / everything you could ever want!!!! We had a perfect view of the Volcano from our room !!! We were only planning on staying 4 nights but because we just couldn't bring ourselves to pack our bags so we decided to stay another night !! Hahaha ! Then the most amazing gift came along , it was the Manager of the Lodge who was absolutely lovely in every way ! She was very pleased to hear we were staying another night and then she said she had been trying to make contact with us all day ? I'm thinking hummm , I couldn't figure out why ? Was it because we almost fell asleep in our lunches the day before Hahahaha!Guest review byMckelveyCanada
- From US$144 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,475 reviewsArenal Observatory Lodge was highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. Location and facilities are simply amazing. We didn’t expect to lay on our beds and watch volcano and toucans perched on the trees right by our windows! Staff is wonderful. Luis was our driver who picked us up in San Jose and told us a lot about area, tours and facilities during our ride. He was attentive and caring. He also delivered sunglasses we forgot in the shop in La Fortuna, was very kind of him. Carlos from reception helped us to receive our luggage which was delayed by airline. He informed us when luggage finally arrived. Trails are in very good conditions and have protection from rain every km or so. Trails were easy or moderate, so even my mum who is 64 coped with them and truly enjoyed it. Food in the restaurant is very tasty and well presented. Thanks to everyone in the Lodge who made our stay unforgettable!Guest review byYaroslavUkraine
- From US$128.82 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,065 reviewsVery calm location in the middle of the rainforest, can't be more relaxing! It was so amazing to fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of frogs, birds etc... They were very attentive to my honeymoon request. The whole hotel is sustainable, the hot water from the shower is provided by solar panels. The food is very good and the prices are very reasonable. According to the occupancy it might be necessary to book a table in advance, especially at diner time. They helped us booking full day hikes as well and gave us breakfast to take with us. They provided us flashlights for us to go back to our room in case it's already dark. We used the laundry service as well the day before our check-out and it was ready on time for us to leave.Guest review byMarinaGermany
- From US$450.87 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 491 reviewsThe whole experience at Tabacón was exceptional. It is expensive and we were (to be honest) expecting it to be quite busy with little space for a personal stay. However, this was absolutely not our experience. We were amazed at how private the thermal pools felt. There are so many places where you can sit with your own group completely secluded from others. The service was amazing and the quality of the food, drinks was also very high. An expensive trip, but certainly well worth it after 3 weeks of traveling through Panama and Costa Rica (a little bit of TLC for the family).Guest review byIan 1978Netherlands

The staff is very helpful and friendly. The pool with the different hot tubs is a true joy, especially in the evening hours. The rooms are spacious, very clean and our bath room had the best shower we could wish for. The location of the hotel is also perfect, it's located in a very quiet street nearby the La Fortuna Waterfall and only a few minutes from Down town La Fortuna.Guest review byOlivier FransUnited States

We enjoyed the area and while we did a lot including driving to Monteverde for zipline tour, we chose one day of pampering rather than adventure so did not hike around Arenal or paddle board on Arenal. We did white water rafting between Puerto Viejo and Fortuna. We did waterfall repelling near Fortuna (amazing). The people are friendly and the area is lovely. We enjoyed a night time nature tour with our hotel (Noah's Landing) and Nayara Gardens was amazing. We saw plenty of sloths but so much more! We went to the Mistico hanging bridges on a rainy day which worked well-it did not matter. We also visited the Fortuna Waterfall (500 steps down-then 500 steps up but worth it!) If you like adventure- there is plenty. If you want to relax-it is a beautiful place to do so.Guest review byTamiUnited States - 10.0

Our trip was mostly rejuvenation, health and to access the volcano and hot springs. We went to Arenal park and hiked the trail to the Volcano. We saw a Capibara but most other wildlife is best viewed in the early morning. There were a lot of orchids in bloom along the trails. Going to EcoTermales Hotspring was the highlight. It's a gorgeous naturally constructed spa with layered pools, waterfalls all built with stacked granite rockery, bridges and pathways connect the pools, and there's plenty of seating, an open bar that serves the best mixed drinks. The restaurant served fresh healthy assortment of seafood and meats with veggie dishes with dessert at Lunch. The water was fed from the natural hotspring, which was circulated , refreshed constantly with fresh volcanic water. Attention to the holistic elements of nature were throughout. Staff and Service were top notch.Guest review bySuZImageZCanada - 10.0

This is a great area to experience Costa Rica and the wildlife. We visited Mistico hanging bridges (great with a guide as located creatures we would not have); La Fortuna waterfall (no guide needed); Sky adventures (aerial tram, zip lines & trails); sloth guided tour; Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails (day pass with lunch) - all of which we would recommend!Guest review byAmandaUnited Kingdom - 8.0
It is difficult to get around in Costa Rica.
It is difficult to get around in Costa Rica. They have on main major highway and you must get off that highway to get to Jaco and Fortuna. The roads are windy and it takes forever to get somewhere. It took us 3.5 hours to get from Fortuna to San Jose and it is less than 100 miles. This is due to the windy roads which are typically one lane in each direction. However, it is a beautiful drive. Just be prepared! If you are in the Jaco area, do not miss Villa Caletas. Has an amazing view. We stayed at the Marriott Vacation Club at Los Suenos in Garabito. It is a beautiful property.Guest review byDenaUnited States
