FAQs about hotels in Basque Country
A Vibrant Land of Gourmet Cuisine, Sandy Beaches and Fascinating Culture
Spanning the French-Spanish border, the beautiful coastal Basque Country lays a lot at your feet: renowned gourmet cuisine, stunning mountainous landscapes and wide, sandy beaches. And not forgetting its stormy history and vibrant cities - they’re a real cherry on top!
Its capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, the 2nd largest in the region and one of the greenest European cities, features a charming town centre with Gothic churches and Renaissance town houses. More contemporary examples of architecture can be found in the region’s biggest city, Bilbao, home to the world-famous symbol and architectural gem of the Guggenheim Museum.
The Basque Country is not all about architecture though. Try the other tourist destinations of Pamplona - with the famous running of the bulls during the San Fermin festival - or San Sebastian, the popular beach resort with a picturesque coastline and great beaches.
Wherever you go, keep in mind (and later in your mouth!) the delicious pintxos, the Basque equivalent of Spanish tapas and wash them down with some local beverages - the unique Sagardoa cider, Txakoli wine or Patxaran, a pink-coloured sloe liquor.
Booking.com offers a wide choice of luxury and boutique hotels, friendly guest houses and comfortable country houses for your Basque Country visit.

A very nice and clean city.
A very nice and clean city. The Old Town was very busy during the evenings, with plenty of bars and Pintxos places to eat. Did the 2 hour boat trip but it wasn't very interesting (loads of views of derelict buildings and industry!). Did the Hop Hop Off bus tour which was good to get a quick view of the city. Did a Pintxos and drinks organised evening tour of 5 bars in the Old Town and would highly recommend it (thanks, Irene!). Visited the outside of the Guggenheim Museum but not being a modern art fan, didn't think it was worth spending £25 to visit inside, Would suggest that 4/5 days max is needed to see everything.Guest review byPeterUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Nice lively city though very busy with tourists.
Nice lively city though very busy with tourists. Plenty of things to see and do. The San Telmo Museum is well worth a visit. Pintxos bars are obviously one of the main attractions but there are plenty of good restaurants too.Guest review byJohnAustralia - 10.0

I like everything there, especially the environment, the activities and the people. I didn't get enough african food there. My challenge was that, you don't get the required help if you don't speak SpanishGuest review byBaba - 10.0

Zarautz is an impossibly quaint, clean, and beautiful town with one of the best surfing beaches in Spain, and possibly Europe. It is a town that is so picturesque it could be in its own movie. The shops are beautiful and tasteful. The restaurants serve some of the best food I've ever tasted. And the beach is huge and absolutely stunning. Everywhere you turn you are rewarded by a beautiful view.Guest review byMarkUnited States - 8.0

We found the Atalaia an ideal stopping off point on our journey to Spain and we will return again. We loved the style and size of the rooms and the modern clean bathroom. Staff were very friendly and only deficit was a lack of coffee/tea in the room.Guest review byBill StevensonUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Great location, short trip to Ferry, Very good wifi in room, Max Centre very close for fast food, secure parking for my motorcycle from 11pm to 8am, I still recommend to use locks on your motorcycle like every other hotel. Friendly staff and easy checkin, Bar, breakfast cost 10 euro and well worth it. Room was quiet and large enough for solo or couple.Guest review byTimUnited Kingdom - 8.0

A great neighbourhood to experience authentic life in another country and culture. Weekends are festive in the area with lots of activity at the local bars and cafes. Not many tourists around though... more elderly population noticeable.Guest review byAnonymousZimbabwe - 10.0

Our 3rd visit to Hondarribia. Wonderful historic centre. Great beach area. Unique in that there is a little boat that crosses to France in 7 mins. Many restaurants and bars. Can be very lively, particularly during festivals.Guest review byBUnited Kingdom - 10.0

its a lovely hotel and the old village is well worth a visit. going to the village is a must . We have been three times now. Plenty of eating places and a few shops. If you like wine book a visit to the Winery in the village itself.Guest review byRoyUnited Kingdom - 8.0
The beaches and harbour were lovely.
The beaches and harbour were lovely. It is well worth taking the gondola across the water to the local cafes and old town area. The promenade is long and makes wonderful walking by the sea. There are all kinds of games and water sports available. Getxo is a Spanish resort. Bars in town offer snacks (pintxo) with beer/wine etc. Restaurants are on the promenade reached by lift. Very little English is spoken except in the restaurants on the promenade.Guest review byMargaretUnited Kingdom
