Unhurried life in unspoilt nature
A beautiful Balearic Island, Menorca (or Minorca) has wonderful beaches, sandy coves and a more laidback atmosphere than its neighbours Ibiza and Majorca. Boasting the world’s 2nd largest natural harbour, its capital Mahon is the centre of the nightlife, with several clubs and bars. However, as soon as you head to one of the Menorca resorts, things start to slow down. Punta Prima along the coast has a lovely Blue Flag beach, while the longest beach at Son Bou on the south coast is lined by protected sand dunes. Much of Menorca’s unspoilt beauty is ecologically important, so it’s worth heading inland from the beaches to explore the mountains. The views from the highest peak Monte Toro are amazing. Also worth checking out are the ‘taula’ – prehistoric megaliths whose origin is a mystery. Another prehistoric monument is the Naveta tomb near Ciutadella, a city centred on its port, partly lined with walls. Fantastic Cala Blanca and Cala’n Bosch to the south have a good range of luxury Menorca hotels available on Booking.com, as does curving Cala Galdana where the sea appears almost green. In the more rocky north of the island, the main resorts are Fornells – a pretty fishing village – and Arenal d’en Castell, home to yet another wonderful horseshoe bay.

As it is "family" place, there were kids of very small age everywhere, and I liked a lot the preparedness of all facilities for it, especially two restaurants, where you automatically get a chair for a small kid, even a bib. Such small details surprised me and I admire the all employees who were managing very well all types of situations, mainly the busy breakfast and dinners, where kids are running everywhere. Mahon is a lovely town where you can actually do loads of walking and if you're feeling adventurous you can go for a swim South of the port, which is about 20 minutes away on foot. Quite a few different places to eat and with a bus station serving all parts of the island with a visit to Ciutadella definitely worth your time. Met quite a few people that were using the town as a one-night stopped as part of some kind of food race or alternatively getting on a bus to somewhere and then walking along the coast and getting the bus back. If you like some technical and testing mountain biking it's definitely worth hiring a mountain bike for the day and hit one of the coast line tracks which are impressive but hard work.Guest review byEduardoUnited Kingdom - 8.0

This was our second stay in the area and we have booked for next year. The locals are friendly and the food is a very good standard. The harbour is lovely to visit and walk round by day or night. Our local go to bar is Tom's bar just off the harbour. Where Guinness is only 5.50 euros. Lol. I had absolutely amazing, relaxing stay in here. It is true that the hotel is a bit isolated, but one should know this before booking a stay here. For me, this was perfect, as I was seeking for nice relaxing stay at hotel and chilling on the beach, which was just 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. The animation team is coming with plenty of activities, so even at the hotel you can not get bored. It was perfectly relaxing time at pool and beach. The hotel is well maintained and is really clean, the restaurant is beautiful with an amazing food, I did not find a single thing to complain about. This little town is a great base for exploring Menorca - it has a lovely location beside a pretty cove and one can head in different directions to explore the island from here! There is quite a wide choice of restaurants, of variable quality, the best imho are Casa Tia and El Pulpo. There are two good sized supermarkets. We visited Fornells pre season, therefore very quiet and a lot of bars, restaurants and shops hadnt opened. everything was about to open up. my opinion is it is the perfect place for 'boaties'. you need a car to travel to beaches as there isnt a beach at Fornells. Although parking can be difficult in the port itself, there is plenty of parking available a short walk behind the village. An upmarket quirky and pretty village. a varied selection of restaurants offering fish or the famous Lobster stew. plentyt of walks for enthusiasts. Very quiet area, with a small tourist center where you can find everything you need. Close to Ciudadella and many other beaches where the bus goes. One-hour taxi ride to the airport for 70 Euros.
