The place is called "Hotel" but it is more like being in a bed and breakfast or home of the local bourgeoisie with whimsical, trendy, 21st century modern touches. Cozy, relaxed, super convenient to experience the lovely city of Vichy. The host graciously provided me, upon request, with a list of typical local restaurants. The room is a haven of cleanliness and quiet. There is artwork throughout the house as well as a flower garden where guests can enjoy breakfast. There is a pool table to while away the time as you enjoy a beer or two.

    We were really nicely surprised by the quality of the hotel. We were in Montluçon for a night's stay for a ceremony at the Ecole de Gendarmerie. We searched for a convenient hotel on the web and found this one; we were a bit surprised of the paintings, features of some rooms. When we went into the room, we were nicely surprised because the features had nothing weird, there was a lot of space and the bathroom was great. The staff at the reception and for the breakfast were charming and very helpful. All in all, we would recommend the hotel and also the city who has a very interesting history.

    Our room with a park view was beautifully decorated, comfortable, and large. The front desk service was efficient and welcoming. We appreciated the staff parking our car. We used the thermal spa and enjoyed our half hour there. Also the open pool on the 7th floor was a surprise treat. Breakfast was plentiful. Common areas in the hotel (such as the bar and outside terrace) were inviting. We loved the location along the park and riverfront, also the historical park across the street. All-in-all, a very pleasant stay.

    Very nice hotel with an outstanding restaurant. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, and David, the hoberguer, was great! Our room was large and comfortable, with a view overlooking the garden. Our dinner at the hotel’s restaurant was well prepared and delicious with a wonderful assortment of local vegetables, and the breakfast buffet had a good selection of hot and cold items, fresh fruits and cheeses.

    So refined, so relaxing so utterly charming. In some ways Vichy is a throwback to different generation yet offers so much to the modern traveller- a beautiful lake to walk or cycle around, great wine bars and restaurants from top end Michelin starred to welcoming cafes.

    The medieval centre and Jardin Wilson were lovely and MUPOP very. Interesting.but otherwise there was little to do. Once we hired a car we were able to travel to interesting hiking places. You really need a car unless you are just in Montlucon for a mini break.

    you need a car to get to this out of town hotel which is easily found off the N145. we stayed to visit nearby Montlecon, which easy to find and not to far away, but again best to have a car. ACE hotel itself is ideal for what we wanted in a short stay B&B. Staff very good priced about right regards value for money, and a continental breakfast included. no complaints from us, i would say its the french equivilent of Travel lodge in the uk if you are looking for a comparison.

    I didn't really tour the town as such, I was castle hopping in the surrounding radius of 10-12 miles or so, but I did go into Vichy (just across the river) for gas and food and it's a very accessible area and mid/upscale.

    The whole atmosphere was lovely.

    The whole atmosphere was lovely. The buildings were very elegant. There was a wide variety of walking and cycling routes in the area. There were not many places to eat after 8pm but the hotel opposite the casino stayed open later and served good quality and good value meals and drinks.

    Vichy, needless to say, is a unique place because of its beautifully preserved spa city centre, partly still functional, partly (especially the many luxury hotels) transformed but fortunately not torn down like they are so often in similar past-glory circumstances, and still defining the atmosphere of the place For those interested in recent history (yes, I am) there is of course the 1940-1944 period of the Vichy régime which was accommodated here, and although the city does not exactly advertise it, it isn't kept an embarassing secret either anymore, the subject is treated as it should be. Nice shops, not just the usual offers. Pleasant atmosphere, especially on the kind of early spring day when we visited the place. 2,5 hours train travel from Paris, city centre all very walkable. Visit the Gotham City-like Notre Dame des Malades church, a one-of- a-kind art déco religious building, full of sumptuously executed details, no costs spared evidently.

    Montlucon is quite a good-sized town which is compact with a town and commercial centre called St Jacques where one would have access to all the franchised fast food chains like Burger King, KFC; supermarkets and many other outlets.     We stayed just overnight and into the afternoon of the next day. We saw all the fountain and spa sites, St Blaise Cathedral, some magnificent city architecture and had a lovely chat with a cafe owner about cinema over a great coffee. We indulged in a spectacular cake fest for morning tea, saw as little of the opera house as the officious door guards would allow (read none… not even a photo of the ceiling of the entry from outside the front door, but we found a window to take a shot anyway!), had great croissants, terrible burger and fries and met wonderfully helpful people on the street, who could not do enough for us. A very brief and mixed experience. Would have loved to enjoy some gardens but for the teeming rain, and didn’t make it to museums unfortunately. More time needed for sure in this very friendly, pretty town.
