Toulouse is the fourth largest city in France, but the city centre is compact and easy to walk around. There is a metro for longer journeys. There are many great places to eat. There is a lot to see in the city centre and the Canal de Midi and the River Garonne are great places to walk. The key advantage of Toulouse is that it is an excellent centre to explore other towns and cities such as Albi, Carcasonne, Foix and Narbonne some of the cities on the coast. The train service from Toulouse is excellent. The Occcitanie regional government have a rail pass for the whole region which works out at 10 euros per day. Just research Occitanie Rail Pass online. This was not my first trip to Lourdes and I found the destination to be rather pricy. Food is terribly expensive, like a portion of dessert is 9e. The destination only offers the religious aspect unless you leave Lourdes to visit the mountains. Great little quaint hotel, absolutely charming. Walk across the street, you have a little church worth seeing. You can see the castle from the little plaza next to the restaurant. Within walking distance to the castle. Everything there was enchanting. The hosts were perfectly welcoming, friendly, helpful. DO NOT MISS the breakfast. It is well worth it.
