FAQs about hotels in Somme
Rural Region With a Sombre Side
Although forever to be remembered for a horrific World War I battle, the Somme has returned to the sleepy rural region that it once was before being ravaged by war.
The Somme River, which it is centred on, enters the English Channel at a delta between the pretty medieval village of Saint-Valery-sur-Somme and Le Crotoy with its sweeping beach.
This part of the Picardy coastline is popular for relaxing France beach holidays amid unspoilt nature. The marshy terrain attracts rich birdlife, and seals bask on beaches between Mers-les-Bains and Fort-Mahon-Plage, just 2 resorts offering Somme Bay hotels on Booking.com.
Of course, the region’s more sombreing side should not be forgotten, and evidently it is not. The many immaculately tended war cemeteries are fitting tributes to the thousands of men who lost their lives. At the centre of the battlefields, small Albert is surrounded by Somme cemeteries and remembrances, including the poignant Memorial to the Missing in Thiepval. Amongst its reminders, Péronne has the Story of the Great War Museum within a 13th-century castle.
Most Somme hotels are in Amiens where a grand 13th-century cathedral towers above colourful waterfront cafés and river island gardens. Hundreds more islands are in the river between here and Abbeville, a town which suffered greatly through war, although 15th-century St Vulfran’s Church remained largely unscathed.

- From $175.75 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.7Good - What previous guests thought, 673 reviewsWe reserved this place for two nights (weekend). It was good and relaxing. We saw a few things that is good to know before reservation because the description in booking is a bit different. 1. This hotel has amazing staff you can ask whatever you need to know and they are available always. 2. If you have an electric car you can charge it for free 3. We reserved junior suite and understood this hotel has a base on top of the hill and the rooms are spread in the area, for us was about 4 mins walking. But consider if you want to use jacuzzi you have to walk with rope, or if you want to use restaurant for meals it needs walking 4. For breakfast you have the option to eat in the room free of charge which is good. 5. In the description of the Hotel you see that a price is mentioned for lunch and dinner, but it’s not true. You pay for whatever you order and there is no included lunch or dinner 6. We had dinner at the restaurant, the quality was ok but if there are a lot guests at the restaurant expect a good amount of delay. For us they forgot about one of our order and we received it very cold and late, but the manager brings a new hot one and even excluded it from the final price. 7. On the booking page says it has a gym but the nearest gym is about 5 km. 8. One of our facilities in the room was mini bar but there was no fridge in the room. At the end we didn’t get if it was broken and they removed it or the facility list on booking was wrong. But we asked for ice to have cold water and they provided with bucket of ice 9. There is a damp smell in the room that makes sense because the hotel is close to the sea.Guest review byAbolfazlNetherlands

Our room in Amiens was great as we expected and reception were helpful. We enjoyed a delightful meal in the old town by the river and near the cathedral. We saw the son et lumieur in Amiens cathedral front which was spectacularGuest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 10.0

There were interesting places everywhere; the various quarters of the itself, the little train that takes you in old fashioned style to Le Crotoy or Cayeux, the boat trips out to the farthest point where it is possible to view seals and amazing bird life, boutique shops and food discoveries. For the young at heart the cycling opportunities were endless and very safe, as are the hiking experiences. With good wellingtons it is possible (with a proper guide) to go out onto the marshes at low tide and view the wild life up more closely, such as crested cranes and the ecosystem. Further afield there are lovely, long forest walks in the Cressy forest and a visit to the battlefield of Crecy (August 1346) where a much smaller army under Edward III and his son, the Black Prince, routed many more French soldiers and mercenaries by clever strategy and the English longbow. A very small site but very atmosphericGuest review byLauraUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Abbeville is a hidden French gem, close to everything .
Abbeville is a hidden French gem, close to everything . Near beaches, war memorials ( battle of the Somme ) chateau's to see and the shopping is great. People are friendly. Lots of money has poured into Picardie due to Macron and this being his home area. Paris is close and so is Amiens and its canals and catherdrals. Abbeville has stunning old streets and houses and beautiful Catherdral. A well kept secretGuest review byMichelleUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Le Crotoy is a village we have been coming to for many years. It is a perfect holiday destination with excellent beaches, bars and restaurants. Hotels are good, in particular Les Tourelles and there are many small towns worth visiting. The steam railway to St Vallery and Cayeux is well worth doing. There is a market every day of the week in a nearby town. If you like fish this is the place to come to.Guest review byroyUnited Kingdom - 8.0

It was in open environment free of traffic and congestion. Friendly area. Arrived late in the evening and their hotel was closing at 11pm. So popped around the corner to McDonald’s around the corner. Hotel was a ground floor room with direct access from outside. Able to park my motorbike outside my room safe and secure. Outside gates locked at 11pm. Ease of mind.Guest review bytoqir - 10.0

We stayed at the Hotel la Terrasse as an overnight stop. We knew that the restaurant is one of the best seafood restaurants we know of based on a previous visit and we were not disappointed our meals were perfect.Guest review byStephenUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The hotel was fabulous.
The hotel was fabulous. Excellent accommodation and really good food. Couldn't ask for more. The hotel is located some 2 - 3 miles outside of Ault in a pretty village on to a small beach surrounded by cliffs. Easy access with good parking facilites. The nearby town of Ault is a small and quiet place with beach and Casino. We were out of season so very little open, but good local population out enjoying life.Guest review byRonaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Péronne is handy for the Somme battlefields and war cemeteries as well as for exploring the wider area. The town is quite vibrant and tidy. There are a number of Restaurants, bars and cafes as well as a regular open-air market and selection of shops. It's a town that I (and my family and friends who have visited) feel comfortable and safe in. We like it.Guest review byJonUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I love Albert as it makes an excellent base for exploring the Somme, I have based myself here a number of times. There is a great museum in the centre of the town, the historic basilica and some lovely architecture. There are a few small restaurants in the town centre and a great Asian buffet on the edge of the town. It is not the town for lovers of nightlife, its a slow relaxed town.Guest review byRichard EdgarUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We came for the Rederie.
We came for the Rederie. Overall we had an excellent experience. Huge event, very well organised, the streets felt super safe and secure. We found lots of good and interesting things at fair prices. We enjoyed our interactions with the majority of stall holders. BUT - one sour note, we found some traders suggesting ludicrous prices - vingt-quatre euros for things not worth vingt euros. We suspected that they were offering special prices for the English. And this was confirmed - we overheard several saying things like "When we hear the English accent we put the price up!" Well take note - a)most English people understand French and b) that attitude spoils things for everyone .... We would also have liked there to have been a higher percentatge of more specialist stalls - a very high percentage of the stalls seemed to have a pretty random selection of items for sale rather than focussing on specific areas of art and design. This made it difficult to tell one street from another. Amiens is a handsome city, with very good buildings from all ages, and very clean, civilised streets. And its very easy, and enjoyable, to get around - on foot. Meanwhile, the city bus network is excellent - the buses are frequent, inexpensive and its easy to buy tickets and understand destinations and correspondences. We LOVED the museum. Fabulous collections - archeology, paintings, sculpture. Brilliantly curated and displayed. Marvellously informative labels. Superb architecture - inside and out.Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom
