The building is stunning, and the additional accommodation fits in perfectly. A very well stocked bar. The moment we arrived, we were given a warm greeting and made to feel welcome. The room was exceptional, very tastefully decorated, and well supplied. The evening meal and breakfast were both tasty and plentiful , very well cooked and presented perfectly. The hotel has a lot of history and is proud of it, rightfully so. The village itself is very picturesque.

The Bird in Hand exceeded all our expectations. This charming and quintessentially English inn creates a unique atmosphere that is both cozy and inviting, making you feel instantly at home. The traditional decor and warm hospitality truly capture the essence of English countryside life, leaving a lasting impression. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to return again and again, not just for the accommodations but for the entire experience it offers. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable and authentically English stay.

The hotel is in a small village in the Cotswolds surrounded by fields of green. The room and bed were comfortable. The breakfast is really good and we ate in the restaurant at night which was also great. Lovely fireplace and soft music, very cosy. The staff are friendly and the whole place clean and with lovely furnishings. I highly recommend a stay in this charming hotel.

Gorgeous period building, renovated to a modern (but still kept original character) high standard. Rooms were cosy, with extremely comfortable beds and great extra touches such as the tea tray with high quality products which was topped up each day. The cooked breakfast was fantastic and staff were super lovely and welcoming. Couldn’t ask for a better location with a handy carpark adjacent. We will definitely return.

FAQs about hotels in Cotswolds

The Quaint Heart of England

One of England’s most quaint areas, the Cotswolds are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with rolling hills interspersed by picturesque villages with limestone buildings.

From Cirencester to Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold to Stroud, the laidback lifestyle makes this area a great choice for an escape to the country. Booking.com has some fabulous accommodation and, of our range of Cotswolds hotels, luxury and budget alternatives are covered in equal measure.

The largest place is Cheltenham, a wonderful Regency spa town. Neighbouring Gloucester has some well-preserved medieval buildings and an impressive cathedral. Some of the most photographed medieval Cotswolds sights are the Arlington Row almshouses in Bibury. To the east beautiful Burford has a high street going up a hill, Burford Priory country house and the large Cotswolds Wildlife Park just south.

More feathered friends are found in Birdland Park at Bourton-on-the-Water, a lovely village with low bridges spanning its river. Forming a triangle with it are Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Norton, whose former mill and almshouses are worth a look. Broadway to the north-west has a main street in the shade of hills, one of which has a tower from where it’s said you can see 13 English counties!

Wherever you decide to stay, check Booking.com for great Cotswold hotel deals.

Very attractive town, full of Regency terraces (Bath's younger brother). Some excellent restaurants and pubs. But double check before you visit Sudeley Castle - went all the way to Winchcombe on the bus only to find the Castle closed without any notice! But Winchcombe itself is a pretty village.

Chipping Norton is a lovely town with great Pubs and cafe's and shops. It is in an ideal location to travel to many lovely towns and villages and has nice walks all around. We had Sunday Dinner at The Fox which was gorgeous. The yorkie was huge, 4 slices of meat and plenty of veg. We had a celiac and they were very knowledgeable and had a good choice of gluten free. The staff were brilliant. Also visited The chequers and the food, staff and choice again was brilliant.

Stroud is a town with plenty of character.

Stroud is a town with plenty of character. There are many independent shops and alternative lifestyles are welcome. There are many coffee shops and restaurants. We especially enjoyed The Curio restaurant, King St, Woodruffs coffee shop and Rajat Indian restaurant. We walked along the canal to Stroud Brewery which has a good bar and restaurant. That was an easy walk. We walked up Swifts Hill, Slad Valley and had a drink in the Woolpack, not so easy but very enjoyable. This is a must for fans of Laurie Lee's books.

A fabulous old historic hotel centrally located in Broadway with very helpful and friendly staff. Our room was of good size and the bed very comfortable and large. The decor of the room needs an upgrade in our opinion, along with the bathroom modernising. The Dining Room, bar area and assorted snug reception rooms are quite amazing and in keeping with the history of this beautiful 600 year old coaching inn. One of our disappointments was the James Martin Grill restaurant, we were probably expecting much higher standards for our dinner which didn't appear. We enjoyed our first evening bar meal in the Hunter bar which is attached to the hotel, possibly more. The pool and spa were absolutely delightful although one point to note was to be asked for a discretionary 12.5% service charge on top of the treatment prices (the treatments themselves were standard given that their descriptions in the marketing online would make you think otherwise) which are higher than average and increase at the weekend. It was a very special treat for us and all in all a great stay.

A nice central town that is a good place to stay for when you are out exploring the cotsworlds. There's plenty of places to eat, cafes, restaurants and pubs. There is free parking on the front of the shops, but you will have to get there early, to secure a spot. There is also a pay and display car park, and the train station car park is also available. There is a wide variety of shops such as charity shop, a pharmacy, a couple of supermarkets and other shops.
