FAQs about hotels in Istria
Land of History, Sun and Wine
The land of stony beaches, sapphire seas and rocky mountains, Istria is the largest peninsula of the Adriatic Sea. It’s a popular tourist destination famous for its cuisine, weather and wine.
Istria has been a part of many powerful empires: the Byzantine, Roman, Venetian, Austro-Hungarian and more recently, Yugoslavian. Each of them has left an easily recognisable mark on the architecture, giving you an opportunity for a crash course in the region’s fascinating past just by travelling around.
The Brijuni Islands are a must-see for that reason. They were once President Tito’s private property with a large zoo, over 200 dinosaur footprints and a never-ending stream of international guests, including heads of state and Hollywood film stars.
Located near the Brijuni is the largest city of the Istria region, Pula, best-known for the beautiful Roman architecture and tranquil countryside surrounding it, as well as for its winemaking and fishing traditions.
Whether you’re visiting Pula or other towns like Pazin, Porec or Opatija, make sure to visit local restaurants and try Italian-influenced dishes with famous Istrian peppers, truffles and seafood. Finish your meal with grappa or a glass of sweet wine - the best comes from the Kalavojna region.
Istria is a diverse region and Booking.com offers equally diverse properties. From boutique hotels to comfortable apartments, you have a range of nearly 600 properties to choose from.

- From US$471.69 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 2,539 reviewsMy inspiration bubbles from my curiosity and love of travel. I observe the world around me, look for new perspectives and get inspired by the unspoken truths and important insights I discover. It is a constant process of discovery and experimentation that brings my designs to life. When I visited Grand Park Hotel Rovinj, I was literally enchanted by the beauty of Istria and the inspiring atmosphere of Cap Aureo Signature Restaurant under the direction of Zelijko Lozancic and JJV, at Lurel & Berry Restaurant especially under the direction of Andreija Jelavic, and at Viva Eufemia Lobby Bar by Lovro Brozd. Always a smile and a kind word on the lips a young chambermaid from Asia. The mixture of breathtaking nature, cultural diversity and culinary delights makes Rovinj a true paradise of inspiration for me.Guest review bySinaItaly
- From US$109.33 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 3,326 reviewsThe houses are in excellent condition, everything you need inside (dishes, appliances, extra towels and toiletries) everything is very clean and new. Large veranda with furniture. The territory is very large, we had bicycles with us, so we moved around without any problems. The restaurants are simply wonderful, everywhere very tasty and excellent service. The pools and the entire area around are clean and very well maintained. Wonderful kids club with lots of toys. We will definitely come again. I wish we could try Villa with Private hot tub, but it is not available fro traveler with pets. However the whole place is super pet and children friendly!Guest review byOlgaGermany

The town was perfect size so walking is easy for everyone. Please note the cobbled streets can be a little slippery so fancy high heeled shoes are a No-No! The local people are kind and friendly and everyone is catered for. Little tip:- book restaurants early to avoid disappointment not obtaining a reservation.Guest review byjohn allardUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Post season Umag seems like a cozy small town.
Post season Umag seems like a cozy small town. I expected more but then maybe my expectations were set too high considering its a popular destination for locals. Although I only stayed there for one night, I can't provide a comprehensive report but we did manage to walk around the city and resort complex. The location seems ideal for an activities holiday destination with a lot of parks and paths for walking/hiking, bike riding, etc.Guest review byZeljkoCroatia - 10.0

Vrsar was charming and small, much more welcoming than over-crowded Rovinj. We got a nice welcome and great tips from our host and felt a much more local-friendly vibe. Services were good quality and there were fewer tourist traps than in Rovinj. Overall a very cosy, relaxing experience, I wish we could have stayed longer.Guest review byVeraHungary - 6.0

Very busy town very clearly oriented to beach tourists, little to no historical or scenic attractions. Traffic is a nightmare in the mornings and evenings. A few traffic lights at pedestrian crossings would probably improve flow overall.Guest review byAlexanderSweden - 8.0

Fazana is a pretty little place with plenty of places to eat and a few shops but very little to do at night. We went at the end of September so I can imagine it being a lot busier in the summer months. The local buses were great but maybe having a car allows you to see more of the area.Guest review byPhillips - 6.0

Rabac has is a pretty but v small beach front village. If you don't expect much its fine but there is not a lot to do round there and buses are few and far between and taxis expensive in relation to distance.Guest review byJHESLIN1United Kingdom - 10.0

Great little town to walk around in. Great local wineries. Amazing local fruit stand as you make your way up the hill. He had the best selection of the most wonderful fruit and veggies. The ice cream was fantastic. Sampling of truffles and local alcohol without being pressured was amazing. Just fantastic hospitality overall shown by the locals.Guest review byJadCanada
