The staff’s attention to cleanliness was remarkable; they ensured our room was spotless, coming by two or even three times a day to tidy up and make everything perfect. Breakfasts were a highlight – rich, diverse, and delicious, providing the perfect start to a day full of exploring Bali. Evenings were just as magical. Dining at both of the resort’s restaurants was a delight, with every meal crafted to perfection. Little surprises from the staff, like a complimentary cocktail or dessert, added an extra touch of warmth and made the experience even more memorable. Although we had some minor issues with the internet in our room for 2-3 days, the staff worked tirelessly to fix it. Their hospitality shone through again when they offered us, as an apology, a complimentary hour of massage for both me and my wife. We hadn’t planned to try their spa, thinking we’d experience massages at the other resorts we’d visit, but it would’ve been such a shame if we hadn’t accepted this gift. The massage was unlike anything we’ve ever experienced – the soothing scent of lemongrass, the gentle breeze, and the calming sound of rain created a truly unique and relaxing atmosphere. The peaceful Ubud of old has gone, and the artistic centre of Bali, is but a memory!! Regrettably, the Seminyak/Canggu crowd have discovered it, and traffic is terrible, with Jalan Monkey Forest a wall of cars and motorbikes in the evenings. The corner of Jalan Monkey Forest and Jalan Rays rivals the Ginza in Tokyo for crowds!! The main roads from the south, and to Tegalalang, are frequently car parks, with no movement for extended periods. The early morning market along Jln Raya, opposite the palace, is worth a visit, but it's all gone by about 0900, so be early. Restaurants are plentiful, generally good, although I haven't eaten at them all, and probably the best area for concenrated restaurants, is Jln Goutama, also known as Eat Street. I go there for nostalgic reasons, having first visited in 1979, but nowadays stay only one night enroute north coast to Kuta via Kintamani. I do recommend Fair Warung Bale, #6 Jln Sri Wedari, a five minute walk from the palace, as a place to eat. The food is good, great staff, and the reason for their being is that all profits go to providing medical services to the poor!! The beautiful areas of Sukawati require a car/driver. We went to the art market which was nice, but you could get this art anywhere in Bali for the same price. I hadn't been before and wouldn't stay here again, it's a bit 'commercial' and not tailored to tourists. From the moment I arrived l felt very welcomed by the owners & staff who made me feel like part of the family knowing l was travelling alone. My villa had a private garden & verandah with my own pond with fish & a waterfall. Such a peaceful & beautifully spacious room serviced daily. The organic food & drinks were delicious & the house frozen margarita became a daily treat for me. Prices were so inexpensive so l could indulge. The staff are always smiling & laughing as this boutique resort is a place they love to be also . The views are breathtaking & the peace it brought me filled my heart with such joy. Ubud has serious traffic congestion and crossing the road becomes a practiced art. Pavements are a real problem as they are narrow and badly broken up, tripping hazards are commonplace. The roadside kerbing is much higher than normal so for anyone struggling with any type of walking disability, beware. Basically there are just too many tourists and day trippers which makes for even more traffic and crowding. Feels like I should have come here 25 years ago and would have found a completely different vibe.
