The breakfast was excellent. Overall, the experience at the villa was amazing. The villas were very modern and well appointed. The staff really takes care of you at this villa. You are steps away from a private beach with very few people (if any) which is quite the opposite of Bali. The staff brought out a beach chair and a table. I had cocktails on the beach. Staff provided me with snorkeling gear and water shoes as well. I arrived late at night and the staff made sure I had dinner within an hour or so of my arrival. Talk with the staff! They are amazing people and enjoy what they do. My only regret is that I wish I could have stayed longer! You won't regret it!

The Sumba Beach House is a perfect beach getaway! The views are amazing, the beach is clean and walkable, the area is not crowded, the ocean is swimmable and you can surf too. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. There are lots of activities nearby that the staff can help you arrange if you need. The food was wonderful and fresh. The room is simple yet very comfortable and the bathroom is beautiful. Thanks to Melky, Jeni, and the entire staff!

What a gem in Sumba. A slice of paradise. All the staff were amazing and particularly Aloysius William who was painstakingly thorough in helping me navigate flights after the airport was shut due to volcanic ash. He kept me updated with news on flights which was so comforting. Dewi was also amazing but then all of the staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The swimming pool is a gem and the beach is pristine and perfect for early morning walk. I wil be back!

Tia & her husband who run the guesthouse are delightful and so so helpful. It’s a struggle to rent motorbikes so don’t just turn up thinking you can wizz off & explore.. they searched for a friend who was willing to rent one and I was so grateful. They also gave me so much help like running me to the ATM when my card didn’t work in the one close by, offering to make a packed lunch for my day exploring, giving me their WhatsApp in case I ran into any trouble. It became a home away from home & I can’t wait to return

Everything! We were wowed by everything in our bungalow/villa. The best view ever! Blue ocean, breathtaking sunset, thousands of stars in the night sky. The villa was really private, bed was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely love to come back in the future!

This place is not geared for tourism . If your young and adventurest. Yes hire a bike and enjoy. The roads are in good condition and most attractions are 1 to 2 hours from town. People are friendly and helpful . English language is a problem here. Beautiful beaches and scenery. Go for it.

Different place, different experience. Not every place is a big smoke. One need to have an open mind. Waikabubak is for ( for us ) relaxing and enjoying nature. Love the mountains and forests all the way. And The Beautiful Ocean.I love not having TV for 4 days. I just watch the superb waves from our villas verandah at ThreeQueen Villas.

We knew that the resort is somewhat isolated so and that we had to use their facilities, but the isolation could not be seen as a disadvantage. If you consider how much poverty there is on Sumba, most resorts are pure luxury compared to how the local population lives. If you don't mind to just enjoy the basics in life and have no desire to be entertained like they do in Bali, Sumba is a very good destination.

A beautiful, but very poor authentic village for those who like to travel in less touristy areas. I liked the beaches you can visit there, like Pantai Praibakal and Watuparunu, I enjoyed snorkelling in front of the resort. Not many restaurants or options to eat but thankfully food was wonderful in the resort I stayed . I personally don’t like tourist areas, depends what you are looking for . If you are looking to stay in a skyscraper in Honolulu or Bali then not for you. If you like rural areas , peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of other travellers, if you prefer the stars at night instead of the disco then this place is for you. The village is poor, but very authentic and beautiful. It is safe, and a great place for those who like photography both nature and cultural wise . Beware when planning road trips around taking into account extremely bad road conditions, usually the main road should stick to

Waikabubak as a town is a non-descript typical provincial Indo town, with little accommodation and only one decent restaurant (great prices, great local food, cold Bintangs at D'SUmba Ate Waikabubak). There are few homestays and poor hotels. There are a couple of interesting Art Shops selling genuine antiques and local artifacts. There is one tourist shop selling local ikats mainly but at vastly inflated prices. The good things are all the traditional villages usually perched on local hilltops, including the touristy Prai Ijing (most of the houses now replaced by traditional LOOKING concrete rumah adats, only 1 year ago most were wooden structures) and then some great real untouristy places (e.g. prairame, kampung tarung). Also good access to waterfalls Lapopu and Matayangu. I wouldnt stay here for the town intself (in fact I would avoid it for that reason), but it is a great jumping off point for nearby attractions.

Go to Kampung Tarung, best ancestral village experience in Indonesia. Way WAY better than Rattenggaro! Authentic, free, no one is pushy about the stuff they sell, and you feel welcomed. Biggest highlight of Waikabubak!
