- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 29 reviewsOur stay at NIHI have been beyond amazing. We stayed at 2 different villas: Lontoro & Lamba. Reaching NIHI was very smooth & hassle free thanks to the hotel staff located at both airports: Bali & Tambolaka. Upon arriving at bali airport the staff have already prepared the boarding passes & took care of our check in luggage without requiring our presence at the checkin counter. We were escorted through the customs to the gate and the staff stayed around for any help until we started boarding. Arriving at tambolaka we were welcomed by NIHI Staff and we waited a really short time at the lounge while they took care of our luggage. Then we got into NIHI’s amazing safari car equipped with wifi, drinks & snacks. We reached our destination in one and a half hour. Regarding our stay, the rooms were spacious, clean and air conditioned. It was all inclusive (breakfast, lunch, dinner) even room service! The staff was very responsive on whatsapp before arriving since we had few questions to ask and even after arriving our guest captain Maxy was very available, helpful and quick. All staff members were friendly, smiling all time and were addressing our needs. The spa experience was beyond amazing. They took us to the spa by safari cars since it’s located out of NIHI area. Our lunch was ready before our treatments with amazing views. Our daily favourite moments were at morning when horses are by the beach and we swam with them and at sunset the magical view (from our villa or the boat house) with live music. Additionally, we are plant based and our dietary requirements were very met by the chef, delicious 3 meals per day were prepared. Definitely coming back again and highly recommended. Special thanks to Madlin, the chef Gary & Maxy.Guest review byMohammedQatar
- From $292.85 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very Good - What previous guests thought, 124 reviewsWhat a wonderful destination. This was one of the highlights of our time in Indonesia. The hotel is gorgeous and the villas are large, cozy, nicely designed, with the ocean waves, creating a nice atmosphere. A nice terrace outside where we opted to have breakfast every morning. We used the private pool in our villa every day. We did not want to leave the room to explore the island at times. The staff in particular were incredible and they did their best to make us feel welcome and taken care of. Very avaible via Whatsapp for anything we needed. Always with a smile. It will stay with me for a long time. Their breakfast and dining in particular were a highlight :)Guest review byEstebanGermany
- From $36.27 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Excellent - What previous guests thought, 136 reviewsWe loved everything about our stay at Morinda. The room was really nice, spotless clean, and came with an extravagant view over the mountains and river! The beds were so comfy, there’s AC, wifi and warm water. The staff was extremely friendly and always helpful, and the family who owns and runs Morinda was amazing. They gave us so many useful tips and made sure our stay was just perfect. Great location too with tons of things to do (hiking, kayaking, visiting weaving and other villages, waterfalls, beaches…). Only a 20 min drive to town, but really peaceful and quiet. Highly recommend staying at Morinda for a stay in the area/ Waingapu.Guest review byIsabelGermany
- From $57.42 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very Good - What previous guests thought, 319 reviewsWhat a gem in Sumba. A slice of paradise. All the staff were amazing and particularly Aloysius William who was painstakingly thorough in helping me navigate flights after the airport was shut due to volcanic ash. He kept me updated with news on flights which was so comforting. Dewi was also amazing but then all of the staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The swimming pool is a gem and the beach is pristine and perfect for early morning walk. I wil be back!Guest review byJaneUnited Kingdom

This place is not geared for tourism .
This place is not geared for tourism . If your young and adventurest. Yes hire a bike and enjoy. The roads are in good condition and most attractions are 1 to 2 hours from town. People are friendly and helpful . English language is a problem here. Beautiful beaches and scenery. Go for it.Guest review byWILLIAMAustralia - 10.0
Different place, different experience.
Different place, different experience. Not every place is a big smoke. One need to have an open mind. Waikabubak is for ( for us ) relaxing and enjoying nature. Love the mountains and forests all the way. And The Beautiful Ocean.I love not having TV for 4 days. I just watch the superb waves from our villas verandah at ThreeQueen Villas.Guest review byMayAustralia - 10.0

We knew that the resort is somewhat isolated so and that we had to use their facilities, but the isolation could not be seen as a disadvantage. If you consider how much poverty there is on Sumba, most resorts are pure luxury compared to how the local population lives. If you don't mind to just enjoy the basics in life and have no desire to be entertained like they do in Bali, Sumba is a very good destination.Guest review byMarjolijnAustralia - 8.0

Waikabubak as a town is a non-descript typical provincial Indo town, with little accommodation and only one decent restaurant (great prices, great local food, cold Bintangs at D'SUmba Ate Waikabubak). There are few homestays and poor hotels. There are a couple of interesting Art Shops selling genuine antiques and local artifacts. There is one tourist shop selling local ikats mainly but at vastly inflated prices. The good things are all the traditional villages usually perched on local hilltops, including the touristy Prai Ijing (most of the houses now replaced by traditional LOOKING concrete rumah adats, only 1 year ago most were wooden structures) and then some great real untouristy places (e.g. prairame, kampung tarung). Also good access to waterfalls Lapopu and Matayangu. I wouldnt stay here for the town intself (in fact I would avoid it for that reason), but it is a great jumping off point for nearby attractions.Guest review byrichard ellisUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Go to Kampung Tarung, best ancestral village experience in Indonesia. Way WAY better than Rattenggaro! Authentic, free, no one is pushy about the stuff they sell, and you feel welcomed. Biggest highlight of Waikabubak!Guest review byEtienneCanada
