Brand-new hotel just opened in August. It incorporates the atmosphere of a cave dwelling, a traditional Matera feature, but the room is very sophisticated and equipped with the latest control technology. Everything from the tasteful decor to the wonderful staff (helpful and friendly, yet professional), cozy room, soft and snugllable towels, sophisticated facilities, and excellent breakfast was superb. The location is right in front of the Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, where buses and cabs enter, so you don't need to climb up and down the stairs lugging heavy luggage around. Erica, the Room Division Manager, spoke excellent English and was very attentive to my needs, including sightseeing and arrangement of taxi. If you ever come to Matera, definitely book this hotel. Highly recommended.

We loved our stay at Palazzo della Fontana. Everything was nice, from the welcome drink on the rooftop to the helpful staff that gave us great advice and treated us to a fine breakfast on the terrace. The location is very convenient, just by the Sassi but with the comforts of a well renovated building with all modern perks, comfortable beds, and elegant rooms.

    Matera is incredible and a highlight of our trip to Southern Italy. We spent 2 nights there which was the right amount of time to fully explore the Sassi and the caves in the valley. There are lots of beautiful restaurants and sights to see. I highly recommend staying somewhere in the Sassi - you will not forget it! Matera is very hilly with lots of stairs and cobblestones so we stored our suitcases in a luggage facility near our carpark and just took an overnight bag for our 2 night stay.

    We had the most amazing meal at La Torre restaurant, Giuseppe is an amazing chef. His wife is an amazing host. Our food was of a very high standard and very well presented. I had a glass of red wine that was from the area. I so regret not taking a box home. Absolutely, love our stay. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. Will go back for sure.

    I liked the old city center area, all the restaurants and...

    I liked the old city center area, all the restaurants and shops just a short walk on mostly level ground. It seemed very safe! I would have liked to see the museum but it was a little too far and down a steep hill for a troublesome knee. A little knowledge of Italian and a translation app was helpful. The people would work with you and overall we’re very kind.

    Extremely charming and beautiful village lost in breathtaking scenery. Easy to walk and experience as a stopover destination but also worthy of a one night stay just to enjoy the night views, the serenity and a good sleep in the clean air!

    Beautiful hilltop town. Amazing castle at the top with a museum of Roman artefacts, well worth a visit - incredible finds and not busy. Not for the faint hearted big hills to everything! Worth it though.

    Marinagri offers very unique vibe.

    Marinagri offers very unique vibe. It is peaceful and very tranquil, you will feel welcome and safe. Policoro is a small city. However it is very cute and people are kind, the weather is great in September. The reason I decided to travel to Marinaagri is sailing in the Ionian Sea. My sailing experience was sensational and I am happy I discovered new destination for my new sailing journeys. The food is amazing I did visited Nemo restaurant, this is very unique place with amazing food choices an first you may think it is a fast food place but I’d you go to Policoro you must try it it is amazing. Seafood is fresh and local and very tasty.

    The diffuso concept is atypical so be ready for the room, breakfast, check-in, gym to all be in different places in the city. Each of these areas we used was wonderful, But our room was a bit of a walk from the check-in area. It happened to be that the walk was worth the location of our room. The room was large and clean and we had full control of heat and air. Everything very, very comfortable and clean and new.

    Loved going up to Christ the Redeemer it was a fantastic view of the area.Worth the zigzag drive up . We went into the village and down by the boat harbour for dinner . Had the best ever dessert at 1999 ll Ristorante. The food there was amazing . Loved the beach ,the water felt warm , great for swimming. The only thing we found difficult was parking . It’s easy to find your way around but parking is difficult.

    An interesting city for a short visit.

    An interesting city for a short visit. A nice Archeological museum (general tours are in Italian exclusively). The city is rich in its theatre but unfortunately, we came out of a season. The historic city centre is situated on the top of a high natural hill; verticals in the city are striking. Therefore, free public elevators are quite ordinary means of transportation.
