FAQs about hotels in Campania
Stunning Scenery and Remarkable Ruins
Wonderful beach resorts, a wealth of history and winding, cliff-hugging roads – these are just a few reasons why Campania is so admired.
Spreading around a bay, the capital Naples is a mix of monumental architecture and narrow streets. Known for pizza and pulsating life night and day, it extends along the coast towards Pozzuoli, site of a Roman amphitheatre and the Phlegrean Fields volcanic area.
The most notorious volcano is of course Vesuvius, whose eruption in 79AD destroyed Pompei and Herculaneum. The ruins of both are an amazing insight into the sophistication of the Romans. Even older are the well-preserved Greek temples at Paestum.
Agropoli sits on a rocky promontory overlooking a beach and harbour, and beautiful Palinuro is at the tip of the Cilento National Park. Other fantastic Campania resorts are on the amazing Amalfi Coast. Ravello, high on a hill, offers stunning coastal views, while Amalfi and Positano cascade down to the sea. Around the peninsula is Sorrento, home to several 5-star Campania hotels, while offshore are the fabulous islands of Capri and Ischia.
Inland Caserta has an impressive Royal Palace with huge gardens, and Avellino nestles in a valley between the port of Salerno and Benevento, site of yet more Roman remains. See Booking.com for an excellent range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Campania.

Naples is not everyone’s cup of tea, as it’s extremely dirty and overcrowded with rubbish everywhere and traffic all the time with a lot of it driving on pavement, that said it’s beautiful in its own unique way with hundreds of churches and monuments, my advice is to do your research and decide what to do , a walking tour , visit the castle for amazing views . A catacombs tour, trip to Pompeii or Herculaneum, ferry across to Sorrento, so lots to see but get a good hotel to relax in after sightseeing.Guest review byAlexUnited Kingdom - 10.0
If you're not planning for tours/trips, 1-2 days in Sorrento...
If you're not planning for tours/trips, 1-2 days in Sorrento will be fine. There are many restaurants and several streets lined with shopping/sites/etc. It's a beautiful town. If you want to take trips to the Amalfi Coast, Positano, Ravello, Capri, Pompei, etc., Sorrento is a great place to be based. (Just know the streets are cobblestone so dragging a piece of luggage is difficult. Add a few minutes getting to/from your lodging.) Taking a ferry from Naples Beverello (Molo) is likely a better option than a train or bus. The Naples port is only minutes away from the Napoli Centrale train station and will cost you around $15-20 for a taxi between the two.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0

Salerno is a port city, medium size city with direct link via high speed train to Rome, Florence and other cities in Italy. This city is used as a cruise city port for those who want to explore the Amalfi coast and is much more afordable to stay here and use the ferry or boat tours to explore the region.Guest review byArvrimBrazil - 10.0

Capri is great to explore via taxi, get up early and head up to Ana Capri, less traffic more intimate area. The chair lift is a must to the top of the mountain, and lunch up top of the mountain is amazing. Capri is nice in the evenings to walk around and shop with plenty of places to get cocktails, and explore.Guest review byAnonymous - 2.0
Positano is a total zoo!!!
Positano is a total zoo!!! The alleys are jam-packed with people and lined with shops selling tourist junk. The roads are extremely curvy and hazardous to walk on (shoulders are about 6" wide). Every time I tried to take a bus there were about 4 busloads of people waiting and it was a battle to get on.Guest review byStaciaUnited States - 10.0

Lovely town with great resturants and the Archaeological site of Pompeii , plus 3 train stations which allowed travel to Herculaneum, Sorrento, Naples and Salerno and the Amalfi Coast. A great central location. We used the beaches at Vico Esquerence as they were a lot cleaner that those at Castlemmare Di Stabi, but we did food shopping at Lidl there and the shopping Center in Pompeii was a treat.Guest review bySarah Blewer-BurmanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Caserta is a very underrated place to visit, but it must be seen on your travels. The palace is an unbelievable place. Check out the gardens, it is close to Napoli, Sorrento, and Capri, and an ideal location to base your Holiday. It has everything you need: Road Network, trains, and busesGuest review byIannarelliUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Maiori is a quieter (thankfully) seaside town along the Amalfi Coast. Its perfect for exploring the whole coastline by ferry and bus. Its also very easy to visit Vietri ( think ceramics on a major scale). You can start the Path of Lemons right in Maiori ( we did) and also visit Ravello. We did the hike to Ravello ( there's a fork in the path) and it was really testing. Although you can see Ravello, its across a valley and so the hike takes you uphill, through the mountain forests and around the valley - some 8-9 kms as opposed to the easy lemon path (tough). Maiori has everything, but its not hectic like Amalfi and Positano ( you can easily escae back home) Don't hesitate to book Maiori or Minori (around the corner) both offer exceptional value when compared. Beware of accommodation up or down flights of stairs to get there, that's what many places will do to you - carrying luggage is tiresome.Guest review byHD & JL Hansen (couple)South Africa
