FAQs about hotels in Sicily
An Island of Intrigue
The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.
Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.
Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.
Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

Walkable city with amazing architecture.
Walkable city with amazing architecture. It is very chaotic and busy in a good way.we enjoyed the large market near the lodging. Very important to us was the closeness of the bus terminal and the train station.Guest review byAlbertUnited States - 10.0

Caatania is a great place to establish a headquarters for exploring the Etna area. Toaramina, Etna wine country, the fish market and history are all close if you are driving and getting through the city is somewhat easy if you embrace your inner Italian..Guest review bywelshUnited States - 10.0

The island of Ortigia is beautiful and we wish we spent a day or two longer there. We used it as a base to visit other nearby places but we could have easily had 1 or 2 full days here to really see all it had to offer.Guest review byGeraintUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Taormina was lively, buzzy and welcoming.
Taormina was lively, buzzy and welcoming. Generally clean and lots of sites and facilities. We visited Catania and Saracusa and was also impressed with those as well. The smaller villages were less impresive and ocassionally quite dirty and full of litter.Guest review byKateUnited Kingdom - 10.0

CEFALU IS VISUALLY STUNNING - BUT VERY BUSY EVEN IN OCTOBER. THE TOWN IS VERY CLEAN AND WELL CARED FOR. SOME STREETS IN THE OLD TOWN HAVE BECOME TOO TOURISTY WITH TOO MANY GIFT SHOPS. BUT I WOULD STILL GO BACK.Guest review byMartinUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Agrigento offers so much more than the Valley of the Temples. It is a beautiful city with stairway alleys, beautiful buildings, and a love of culture. Highly recommend that you reserve a few hours for the city once you’ve covered the incredible ruins.Guest review byKarstensUnited States - 6.0
Trapani was a bit of a disappointment.
Trapani was a bit of a disappointment. Especially if you're trying to compare it to Noto, Ragusa, and Modica, for example. That comparison isn't really possible/shouldn't be made. If you're coming from Agrigento, continue on to Castellammare del Golfo. And on the way there, be sure to visit Erice. It's truly beautiful little place on a mountain. And the views are stunning, too.Guest review byBNetherlands - 10.0
Beautiful town, full of life at night.
Beautiful town, full of life at night. Easily walkable, flat streets. Beach is nice and long, with multiple free areas. It's a gorgeous scene with the huge mountains, and lighthouse at the other end. It is definitely more of a touristy feel, as we went in August. Definitely explore up and down the peninsula, as there's excellent beaches and coves to swim at as well!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Giardini is literally a 10 minutes bus ride from Taormina.
Giardini is literally a 10 minutes bus ride from Taormina. Much more accessible to get around and a lot less expensive. It offers many dining options, beach (which Taormina doesn't), shopping and larger accommodations.Guest review byMariaUnited States - 10.0
A beautiful spot to explore, steeped in history.
A beautiful spot to explore, steeped in history. Ragusa is a great location to explore the surrounding area. We loved walking the winding streets of Ragusa Ibla. The churches were wonderful to wander inside. We had a wonderful meal at Bar Degli Archi opposite the church of Purgatory.Guest review byStephen TriscariAustralia
