- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very Good - What previous guests thought, 324 reviewsThe hotel had onsen with public baths. It was quite neat and clean. Excellent location near Jr station or bus station and a short 5-10 min walk across the river to the old takayama town with tourist things. The bathroom was small (but neat and clean) but we anyways instead used onsen to take bath. The breakfast was just decent and didn't live up to the good reviews we read on booking.com. Just outside the hotel, there is a small cafe run by an old Japanese lady. We loved our coffee and deserts there. Would recommend it if you crave good coffee after the breakfast buffet (it has machine coffee).Guest review byJaskaranUnited States
- From $783.32 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 454 reviewsthe experience of a Japanese dinner and breakfast was awesome. The staff was incredible and could not have done a better job with the breakfast and dinner. The owner of the property was amazing, she went out of her way to get us our bus schedule and tickets to Shiranawa and Takayama, she took me to the bus station to buy the tickets and pay for the taxi on our return to the hotel, she could not have done a better service. our party of four was very impressed with our stay on October 16th to the 17th.Guest review bywilliam aUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 2,442 reviewsI loved the atmosphere in Magome Chaya, it is traditional, and I enjoy the futon beds which can feel a bit hard for someone prefering soft matrasses. We had a lovely view from our room overlooking the mountains. The day we were in Magome was very warm but inside it was cool and pleasant. We additionally ordered food ( breakfast and dinner) in vegetarian option which was delicious. Host was very friendly and helpfulGuest review byMagdalenaPoland
- From $275.75 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Excellent - What previous guests thought, 4,877 reviewsThis was the largest hotel room we had in our 3.5 weeks of visiting Japan but not nearly the most expensive. The breakfast was great and only 1000 yen. The onsen was huge and open most of the time. All room facilities worked well and the bathroom had enough space for larger Europeans. Our only sadness was that we only stayed there one night. Absolutely, thoroughly recommend this hotel.Guest review byGrantNZNew Zealand

Takayama has a mix of quaint old architecture and modern smalltown buildings. It is less crowded than Kyoto and great for exploring on foot. Takayama is also a great base for making day trips to places like the Shirakawa-go Unesco heritage site, Kamikochi nature park and Shinhotaka Ropeway. The Nohi Bus Centre next to Takayama Station is excellently run and provides efficient transport services to these attractions.Guest review bychengSingapore - 10.0
RELAXING QUIET GIFU!
RELAXING QUIET GIFU! We just wanted to visit other places in Japan. We have been to Japan a few times already. We like going to these kind of relaxing places. We went hiking, we walked everywhere since everything was walkable. We had so much local food and sake of course! ONSEN! Nature everywhere! We also met some of my aunt's family and friends. It felt like a home. We love everything in here. We could have stayed longer but will be back and will see the other sights. Thank you GIFU! :)Guest review byisi paniniPhilippines - 8.0

The 8km trail from Magome was great and there were buses going from the station to take you to the start of that short trail. On the return you could either walk to the train station a short walk from Tsumago or catch a bus back to Magome then another back to Nakatsugawa station. Lots of options and times. A beautiful and picturesque walk.Guest review byFrangapaniAustralia - 10.0

Gero has so much to share, with food, including Hida beef, yes get familiar with it. It's top level Wagyu beef and is from Hida the region that Gero is situated. The city is easy to get around in the snow (in Winter) and in the rain (in Spring), with places that are easy to walk or ride share to. Gero to most is a journey to get to with taking the trains, but it's well worth the journey, having seen cherry blossoms in the ever greens AND the snow falling like in a "snow globe", encrusting the tress, during the train ride. We are fortunate to have experienced Gero twice and now looking for a third stay, in Autumn for the changing of the leaves!Guest review byRonaldoUnited States - 10.0
1 day experience is perfect.
1 day experience is perfect. The tourist site can be done in a few hours if your arrive before noon. Next is to enjoy a good hotel stay with onsen and their gourmet dinner onsite from late afternoon to night. Follow by breakfast and leave to next destination. There is a storage place next to the bus terminal if you have luggage to store for a few hours and check out tourist venue next to it before heading to the hotel. We chose to ship our large luggage from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Family Mart or Yamato shipping services from Tokyo.Guest review byLianneUnited States - 10.0

Tajimi is a really great city to visit. Everyone we met was so nice. We did a pottery experience as well which I really recommend. The only issue is that it’s a little difficult if you don’t plan on renting a car. Public transportation is somewhat limited.Guest review byAmandaUnited States - 10.0

Takayama is beautiful, geared towards local and foreign tourists. The only catch is that some places will only take catch so you need to keep that in mind. We found beautiful crafts close to the temple, we also visited the local morning markets and caught the bus to Shirakawa-Go which I cannot reccomend enough.Guest review byHelenaMalta - 10.0

We arrived here after our first four nights in Tokyo and welcomed the peacefulness and pace of the town. We walked two legs of the Nakasendo Way using Nakatsugawa as our base: one leg walking from Nakatsugawa to Magome and the other bussing to Magome and walking to Tsumago from there and then returning to Nakatsugawa to our delightful guest house. Everyone we met here was helpful and kind. .Guest review byDianeCanada - 10.0

Gero is a gorgeous town in the valley in Gifu. There is a much slower pace here, incredibly friendly people. and beautiful nature. There's many nooks and crannies where you'll find interesting things, and the Gassho-mura open-air museum village is a must-see area.Guest review byVincentUnited States
