It’s a really nice big hotel with a great staff, a perfect location next to the sea and near the inner city of Valletta. In terms of hitting what we wanted, the hotel was perfect for us. It seemed to be a mixed clientele of varying nationalities and various ages. The breakfast was good with nice view to the harbour, but we did not eat in the restaurant. The hotel has everything you need. We visited Malta to celebrate my birthday, as very nice surprise the hotel sent in our room a piece of excellent chocolate cake and a bottle of red wine! All the staff were very very helpful and friendly (almost at the reception) on the whole an enjoyable stay but there is room for improvement. Small problem with the heating in our room (in December the outside temperature at the night is around 10-13 degrees) but it was fixed immediately. The hotel inside pool is nice but quite old school. In the main season you can profite of the private beach with small private yacht marine, a large pool outside, outdoor restaurant next to the sea, gym, nice private area around the hotel with small gardens, e. g. Every room has a balcony and you get two free water every day. We forgot our travel adapter / power plug change and we bought them in hotel boutique. The bus station is just before the main gate into Valletta so we used that quite a bit to explore the island. There would be much more to write, but in the end we just want to thank the whole staff. Overall then, hotel was perfect for what we wanted and would absolutely recommend the Grand Hotel Excelsior. I assume its a good place if you are single and you want to party and meet new people. For everybody else its a shallow place with nothing there to see, way too crowded during the night in high season with people that are half dressed, drunk and very vocal. During the day the smell is horrendous in some areas from last night's parties because of the trash and the vomit. The beach was clean and sunbeds with umbrellas were great. They even provided a separate towel to lie on. This was a small cost for the use of it all day. The bar and restaurant weren’t part of our hotel but just a stones throw, so perfect. Lots of rocks to lie on and ladders used in parts to get into the sea. Valletta has plenty to offer tourists. There are busses, ferry’s, Uber and Bolt that make getting about without a car very easy. Lots to explore. Although I have been to Mellieha before and it has changed enormously in the last 25 years, I think it is still one of the most charming parts of Malta. There are dozens of bars and restaurants, a fair few of which I have visited and every one was excellent. I could not fault the village in any way I would certainly recommend this as a holiday destination. Enough restaurants to choose. Really nice beaches and very safe circumstansies for a walk in the municipalitiy. Well equiepped shops, kind staff anywhere. Buses are clean and fast, we were satisfied with them. Missing some cultural evenings (e.g. concerts) - our stay was at the end of September. Msida is a great location to stay being perfectly placed to visit the busy areas of Valletta, Sliema and St Julian's. The marina is amazing with some of the best restaurants in Malta just a short distance away on foot or by Uber or Bolt. Buses run to all parts of the island from stops within walking distance of the centre. Cospicua is a purely residential area. No tourist crowds, no loud bars or noisy restaurants. But within 10 minutes by foot you will reach the harbour front and the areas with restaurants and bars.
