I was greeted by a friendly polar bear in the lobby which was complete with a fireplace and chairs. The breakfast was an expansive treat. I got to try things I never would have before like Scandinavian caviar in a tube and brown cheese while enjoying amazing views. I was not expecting a heated floor in the bathroom. It was such a treat to step into a toasty environment to brush my teeth.

This hotel exceeded our expectations! It was central in town, and very easy to get to everything, especially the supermarket down the street. The apartment was super spacious, and it felt more like a home than a hotel. Already booked another stay for next year here!

The Vibe of this place is awesome. The staff are super cool, polite, caring helpful- Angie and the rest team have a bright smile on their face and they are well dressed too. The kitchen has almost everything and the living room too is comfy and nice. The breakfast is good compared to the price we are paying- can’t expect champagne on a beer budget😀 The bathrooms, toilets and the rooms and bedsheets and duvets are super clean- cheers and kisses to the house keeping staff👏🏻👏🏻 The property is a very cool place, spend sometime knowing about it. The picture frames are very precious and they must be seen and read. You will be happy that you witnessed some history by staying here. Huset is a restaurant nearby its close to be a Michellin star and it’s classy and yes expensive BUT on Saturday’s they have a damm cheap lunch/ dinner for only 210 Nkrone. Its their kindness and gratitude of giving back. Go hungry and enjoy the delicious steak with unlimited side dishes. The property is at the end of city so it’s a nice location to see the Northern lights- just peek from all the windows ( front, back, and both sides) and if you see them bundle up and go out in Groups. The city centre is a 2.5 km walk one way, it’s a nice exercise but go in groups. Polar bears have not been seen in city BUT Never say Never- Caution is better The most awesome thing about this place is the Guests- travellers from different corners of the world, talking to them and also sharing your stories is such a lovely interaction. The tips and experiences you hear and get are invaluable and yes you will make some great life long friends. Keep wandering and spread your smiles.

The food on offer in restaurants is incredible. Try something new or stick to an old favourite like fish and chips. Everything is easy to get to all walking distance So many activities to try, Coal Mine 3, ATV tour outside the settlement of town, Northern most brewery visit and tasting. Experience the place for what it is, awesome, incredible and unique place on the planet. Try as much food as you can.

Barentsburg is a charming little town and somewhat off the tourist track: but it is worth spending at least two to three days because it has some very unique features. Hostel Pomor has excellent value for money: the bar/restaurant in Hotel barentsburg is excellent and cosy: the staff is very friendly and helpful

Longyearbyen is unique.

Longyearbyen is unique. It is a small settlement up in the Arctic in a stark but beautiful landscape. It is very different to other places I have visited. We stayed for 4 nights and included a couple of trips on 2 of the 3 full days we spent there. It was a bonus for us that on the third day, 14th August 2025, it happened to be the 100 year anniversary of Norway's sovereignty over Svalbard. The town is very quiet and there are not many bars and restaurants but we were very happy to find the Karlsberger pub and it's sister restaurant opposite. These are 2 establishments which are popular with the local residents and are very lively and friendly with great food and drinks. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is very easy to walk around Longyearbyen with museums and old mines to visit or you can walk down to the shore and see what wildlife turns up.

I liked the variety of shops and restaurant offerings.

I liked the variety of shops and restaurant offerings. Everything was in walking distance from each other. Depending upon your interests there seemed to be many different kinds of activities to do. I did the Mine 3 Tour and the Svalbard Husky Dogs on Wheels activity. Both I thought were unique experiences and worthwhile. The impression that I got was that there is even a lot more to do during the winter months. Enjoyed eating nice meals at Mary-Ann’s Polarrig and Radisson Blue’s restaurants.
